AI and Automation at Sargent & Lundy
The role requires leadership in guiding teams to move engineering problems from issue to solution by leveraging data and modern tools, including automation and AI, to improve workflows, reduce rework, and deliver cost-effective designs.
Leaders in these positions often direct automation and process-improvement efforts, such as automating calculations, summarizing technical documents, and generating design documentation, while determining when and how AI or agentic AI tools are applied and ensuring results are checked.
Oversight of engineers who program or script (for example, Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate tasks is valued, with review of automated outputs, but not required.
Additional learning in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields is encouraged to enable effective oversight of automation and agentic AI-enabled engineering workflows.
