Data Engineer
Job Description
Fire Rover, LLC is seeking a Data Engineer to design, optimize, and maintain data pipelines and relational databases. The role centers on transforming raw data into reliable, accessible information that powers reporting, analytics, and AI or ML initiatives, working closely with the Data Architect and cross-functional teams. This is an onsite position based in Farmington Hills, Michigan.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, and views to support applications, reporting, and analytics
- Build and maintain data pipelines that move and transform data from diverse sources into our databases
- Model and maintain relational database schemas that are performant, well-documented, and easy to extend
- Collaborate with the Data Architect to extend and improve the overall data architecture
- Provide clean, reliable, well-structured datasets to development, AI/ML, and product teams
- Develop and maintain operational and customer-facing reporting
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and tune database performance and data quality
- Contribute to data governance, documentation, and best practices across the team
Requirements
- 2+ years in a data engineering, SQL development, or database-focused role (or strong equivalent background)
- Strong SQL skills, including query writing, optimization, stored procedures, and schema design; SQL Server or Azure SQL preferred
- Experience designing and maintaining relational databases
- Experience building ETL/ELT data pipelines
- Familiarity with the Azure data ecosystem (Azure SQL, Azure Data Factory) or a comparable cloud platform
- Solid understanding of data modeling concepts and data quality practices
- Strong problem-solving abilities and the ability to collaborate across multiple teams

About the role
The Data Engineer will strengthen the data team and provide additional capacity as the platform and data volumes grow. You will help turn raw data into reliable, well-structured, accessible information that powers reporting, internal analytics, and the applications our engineering teams build. Working alongside the Data Architect, you will broaden our data capabilities and support initiatives across the development, AI/ML, and product teams from a data and SQL perspective.
