Software Engineer III
Job Description
The Software Engineer III will design, develop, and sustain software for naval applications from our onsite location in Washington, DC. The role contributes to the System of Systems (SoS) architecture, addresses cybersecurity considerations, and collaborates with a multidisciplinary engineering team.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and sustain software intended for naval systems.
- Engage in design and code reviews, identify and remediate defects, optimize applications, and develop algorithms.
- Provide network architecture engineering support through review and analysis, model-based systems engineering, and preparation of engineering documents for network and information systems, including assessment and authorization (A&A) activities.
- Evaluate and advance a proposed SoS Architecture Framework in alignment with guidelines for ashore or afloat platform baselines.
- Review SoS designs to identify software vulnerabilities and manage risk to satisfy cybersecurity and UxV mission requirements.
- Identify deficiencies in software systems and propose mitigations.
- Support software integration efforts within a multidisciplinary team of engineers.
Requirements
- At least four years of experience in computer or software engineering on similar systems.
- Experience supporting complex naval IT systems.
- Experience with unmanned systems architectures.
- Experience applying programming concepts in professional or academic settings.
- Experience applying modern software development methodologies such as Agile and DevOps/DevSecOps in professional or academic settings.
- Experience testing and debugging software components, including validating components and analyzing runtime profiles to diagnose errors.
- Experience integrating software units and components to deliver integrated software products aligned with the design.
- Proficiency in one or more programming languages, such as C, C++, Java, or Python.

Security Clearance
Applicants must be eligible to hold an active Department of Defense (DoD) SECRET personnel security clearance.
Educational & Certification Requirements
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, or related fields.
- Master’s degree in a quantitative field preferred.
- Agile Developer certification or Certified Scrum Developer certification
- Professional Engineering License
