Humana is looking for a Software Engineer to help build a brand-new Pharmacy Eligibility application within its Pharmacy Benefit Management (PBM) platform. The work focuses on modernizing legacy components to improve resiliency, performance, and backend workflows, supporting healthcare and wellness experiences for members.
This role is remote in Tennessee, with an expectation to be available for occasional meetings and work sessions within one hour of Louisville, KY, Dallas, TX, or Nashville, TN. The position runs 40 hours per week, and the pay range is $80,900 to $110,300 per year, with eligibility for a bonus incentive plan.

- Design, build, and deliver high-quality software solutions that enhance healthcare and wellness experiences.
- Optimize for scalability, reliability, stability, and maintainability through effective engineering practices.
- Work across the full development lifecycle, including coding, testing, debugging, optimizing, and deploying production-ready systems.
- Raise engineering quality using robust testing strategies, tooling, automation, and adherence to standards.
- Investigate and resolve complex technical issues by identifying root causes and implementing long-term fixes.
- Collaborate with cross-functional agile teams, partnering with product, architecture, and quality assurance to align solutions with business and consumer needs.
- Contribute to an engineering culture focused on innovation, continuous learning, and continuous improvement of the consumer journey.
- Act as a technical authority by driving architectural direction and delivering scalable applications that support healthcare outcomes.
What you’ll need
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in systems analysis or application programming development.
- Experience with PySpark, Databricks, and cloud engineering.
- Experience deploying and maintaining cloud-based applications using Azure App Service or Azure Kubernetes Service.
- Experience working with relational databases at scale.
- Knowledge of server-side languages such as .Net, .Net Core, or .Net Framework 7.0 and higher.
- Experience with event-driven or message-driven systems.
- Experience using CI/CD software development methodology.

Remote work and connectivity requirements
- Must work within one hour of Louisville, KY, Dallas, TX, or Nashville, TN for occasional meetings, work sessions, or conferences.
- At minimum, a download speed of 25 Mbps and an upload speed of 10 Mbps is recommended; wireless, wired cable or DSL is suggested.
- Satellite, cellular and microwave connections can be used only if approved by leadership.
- Associates who live and work from Home in California, Illinois, Montana, or South Dakota will be provided a bi-weekly payment for internet expense.
- Humana will provide Home or Hybrid Home/Office associates with telephone equipment appropriate to meet business requirements.
- Work from a dedicated space with minimal interruptions to protect member PHI / HIPAA information.
Travel
Even though this is a remote position, occasional travel to Humana’s offices for training or meetings may be required.
Pay range and incentives
- $80,900 - $110,300 per year
- Eligible for a bonus incentive plan based on company and/or individual performance
