Senior Java Developer

Selby Jennings is hiring a Senior Java Developer in McLean, VA for an onsite role focused on building backend services for a next-generation mortgage insurance ecosystem. You will design, develop, and scale microservices and RESTful APIs, with a strong emphasis on cloud-native delivery on AWS using modern Java and Spring Boot.

This position centers on performance, reliability, and operational efficiency across distributed systems, leveraging AWS infrastructure, containerization, and automated delivery practices.

What you’ll do

• Design, develop, and maintain backend microservices using Java 17+ and Spring Boot 3+
• Build scalable RESTful APIs within a modern microservices architecture
• Develop cloud-native applications deployed on AWS
• Support high-performance applications using PostgreSQL and DynamoDB
• Containerize services with Docker and deploy on Kubernetes (EKS)
• Contribute to architecture, technical design, and engineering best practices
• Partner with product, engineering, and business teams to deliver customer-facing and internal applications
• Build systems that are reliable, secure, and scalable, improving performance and operational efficiency
• Participate in CI/CD initiatives and promote automation across the SDLC

What you bring

• 8+ years of professional Java development experience
• Strong expertise with Java 17+ and Spring Boot 3+
• Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs
• Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL and DynamoDB
• Experience deploying applications using Kubernetes (EKS or similar)
• Strong understanding of microservices architecture and distributed systems
• Experience with Docker, GitHub, and AWS cloud services
• Solid testing experience with JUnit, Mockito, Cucumber, and integration testing frameworks
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and modern DevOps practices

Compensation: USD 180,000 - 200,000 per year.
