Mid-Level Full Stack Developer

Academian is hiring a mid-level full stack developer for a 6-month contract role. This fully remote position focuses on building and improving modern, scalable web applications end to end, with a technical stack spanning React 19 / Next.js / TypeScript on the frontend and Python / FastAPI REST APIs on the backend. What you’ll do

• Design, develop, and maintain responsive and accessible user interfaces using React 19, Next.js (App Router), and TypeScript.
• Create reusable UI components with Tailwind CSS, Radix UI, and shadcn/ui.
• Develop, test, and maintain production-ready backend services and RESTful APIs using Python and FastAPI.
• Integrate frontend and backend systems, including authentication, data fetching, and both server-side and client-side rendering.
• Work with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, using ORMs for efficient data access.
• Write and maintain unit, integration, and end-to-end tests to support application quality and reliability.
• Optimize performance, scalability, accessibility, and Core Web Vitals.
• Participate in code reviews and follow established coding standards and engineering best practices.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers in an Agile environment.
• Contribute to technical discussions, troubleshoot issues, and support junior developers when needed.

What you bring

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
• 5+ years of professional software development, including at least 3 years building full stack web applications.
• Strong proficiency in React and TypeScript, plus hands-on experience with Next.js App Router (preferably versions 15 or 16).
• Solid experience with Tailwind CSS and component libraries such as Radix UI or shadcn/ui.
• Proven experience building and maintaining production APIs with Python and FastAPI.
• Working knowledge of PostgreSQL or similar relational databases and ORM frameworks.
• Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and collaborative code review workflows.
• Strong debugging, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Good written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with distributed teams.

• Experience working with remote, cross-functional, geographically distributed engineering teams.
