Senior Full-Stack Developer
Job Description
National Testing Network is hiring a Senior Full-Stack Developer to own and evolve a set of AWS Amplify Gen2 serverless applications that power candidate- and client-facing assessment portals. This role combines hands-on development across React and Python serverless services with senior technical ownership for deployments, incident resolution, and engineering practices that keep the platform running smoothly.
In this position, you will take over the Amplify Gen2 platform from the current contract team, help guide a Client Portal rebuild early in its lifecycle, and provide escalation support for a legacy CFML/Lucee application fleet hosted on Elastic Beanstalk.
What You’ll Do
- Own the Amplify Gen2 candidate and client portals end-to-end, covering React/TypeScript frontend, AppSync GraphQL APIs, AWS Lambda functions (Node.js/TypeScript), AWS Cognito user pools, and the Aurora MySQL cluster.
- Serve as a primary contributor to the Python-based serverless API layer, including Python work on the new Client Portal.
- Provide senior-level escalation support for a legacy CFML/Lucee application fleet running on Elastic Beanstalk (CFML experience is not required initially; reading proficiency can be learned in a few weeks for an experienced developer).
- Maintain platform health through PR review, a monthly deploy and patching cadence, IAM least-privilege, and keeping system documentation up to date.
- Mentor a junior developer by assigning daily work, reviewing code, and supporting growth into subsystem ownership.
- Assume responsibility for the Amplify Gen2 platform using existing documented architecture, runbooks, monthly Lambda patch practices, and the established PR review workflow.
- Join the Client Portal rebuild early and act as a senior technical voice on Amplify Gen2 / React / Python architecture, standards, and code review as distributed development partners ramp up.
- Deliver incremental enhancements to the candidate-facing experience, including product and pricing updates.
- Review the 2027 plan to reduce risk in legacy CFML applications, including a Lucee upgrade and selective modernization.
- Establish a regular cadence for code review and pairing with the junior developer.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional full-stack web application development in production.
- Deep, demonstrated Python back-end expertise with proven serverless application development.
- Extensive hands-on AWS Lambda experience (Python and Node.js/TypeScript), including deployment, monitoring, and optimization.
- Strong proficiency with AWS API Gateway (REST and HTTP APIs), including setup, configuration, security, and integration with Lambda.
- 3+ years of hands-on AWS experience, including Cognito and Aurora.
- Production-level React and TypeScript proficiency, including component design, state management, and performance optimization (code samples or portfolio required).
- Experience with AppSync GraphQL, including schema design and resolver authoring.
- Solid experience with MySQL database design, development, and optimization (query tuning, schema design, indexing).
- Demonstrated end-to-end ownership of a production system (not only contribution to a single part).
- Experience with code quality best practices, including unit and integration testing, code reviews, and continuous refactoring.
- Experience effectively leveraging AI in day-to-day work.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including explaining complex concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Comfort operating in a small engineering team with senior-level independent execution.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent combination of education and experience.
