This position is for an Experienced Java Developer joining a mission-critical General Dynamics Information Technology program in Annapolis Junction, MD on site. The role centers on designing and building scalable Java and Kotlin microservices on Linux, utilizing Docker and Kubernetes, AWS, and a modern Spring stack. An active TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph is required.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and support backend Java software aligned with mission objectives.
- Provide ongoing development, maintenance, support, and enhancements for existing systems and platforms.
- Troubleshoot complex problems and offer customer support for software systems and applications.
- Provide recommendations for ongoing improvement and optimization.
- Collaborate with fellow engineers to sustain and advance the organization’s capabilities.
Requirements
- Active TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline, plus 8 years of application design and development experience.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience with Java.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in high level design and/or architecting on programs of similar complexity.
- Experience with Microservices, Spring Frameworks, Docker, and Kubernetes.
- Experience as a mentor, technical lead, or leading an engineering team.
- Authority and desire to move into a Software Team Lead role with responsibilities including leading developers, coordinating with customers and stakeholders, and guiding technical implementation.
- Lead a team to implement efficient, scalable, reliable and resilient backend solutions for the Mission customer; act as the primary contact with customers and technical stakeholders.
- Conduct daily standups, plan and prioritize work, write epics/tickets, and participate in program level planning.
- Manage requirements and technical implementation of high visibility backend Java software.
- Oversee and mentor developers, ensure CI/CD practices are followed for releases, and focus on technical issues and software development.
- Evaluate team processes and practices, implementing changes to streamline operations.
- Collaborate with the Project Manager and the team’s Software Lead to expand program capabilities.

Salary and Benefit Information
The likely salary range for this position is $153,000 - $207,000 per year. This range is not a guaranteed figure and final compensation will reflect experience, geographic location, and contractual requirements.
