Significance, Inc. seeks a Senior UI/UX Developer Consultant to assess, design, and enhance UI experiences across a range of systems, from modern web applications and dashboards to Power Apps, SharePoint solutions, RPA/automation touchpoints, AI-enabled tools, and legacy platforms. The role is based in Alexandria, VA (onsite) and includes a USD 131,000 - 143,000 per yearly salary range.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate existing Navy and DoW applications, including custom web applications, Power Apps, SharePoint solutions, dashboards, RPA and intelligent automation solutions, AI-enabled tools, and legacy systems, using heuristic evaluations, usability audits, and user feedback analysis to identify opportunities to improve usability, accessibility, navigation, and overall user experience.
- Conduct user research through stakeholder interviews, surveys, usability testing, and other methods to uncover user needs, pain points, and system enhancement opportunities.
- Translate research and business requirements into wireframes, mockups, interactive prototypes, user flows, and other design artifacts that communicate proposed improvements.
- Provide user-centered design recommendations to simplify workflows, improve navigation, and align user needs with business requirements and technical constraints.
- Design dashboards and data visualizations (including Microsoft Power BI) to clearly present real property, asset, and performance data, applying data visualization best practices so users can interpret information quickly and act.
- Design user-facing touchpoints for RPA and intelligent automation solutions, including intake forms, request portals, human-in-the-loop review and exception-handling screens, status notifications, and bot monitoring views.
- Design, develop, test, and implement UI enhancements using front-end development technologies as program needs evolve, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and applicable frameworks.
- Facilitate design reviews and working sessions with functional users, stakeholders, and technical teams to validate solutions and incorporate feedback.
- Establish and maintain UI/UX design standards, reusable components, and development best practices to support consistency, maintainability, and scalability across supported systems.
- Ensure interfaces comply with Section 508, applicable WCAG standards, and relevant Navy/DoW standards.
- Collaborate with developers, system owners, and business analysts to convert approved designs into actionable technical requirements, support implementation, and validate alignment with intended user experiences.
- Support intuitive, transparent, and trustworthy interfaces for emerging technologies, including AI-enabled applications and intelligent automation, with clear indication of AI-generated content, source references, limitations, and human review/override points.
- Define and track UX success measures such as task completion rate, time on task, error rate, System Usability Scale scores, and user adoption to establish baselines, prioritize improvements, and demonstrate impact.
- Participate in Agile development activities and maintain design, development, and technical documentation in accordance with program standards, security requirements, and system development practices.
Requirements
- Active or interim DoD SECRET security clearance, with the ability to maintain clearance eligibility for the duration of the assignment.
- U.S. Citizenship (required by contract).
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, UX/UI Design, or a related technical field.
- 3–6 years of professional experience in UI/UX design, front-end development, web application development, or a related discipline, including demonstrated experience in both interface design and development.
- Demonstrated experience evaluating existing applications and recommending improvements to usability, navigation, accessibility, and overall user experience.
- Experience creating wireframes, mockups, interactive prototypes, and user flows using modern design and prototyping tools.
- Experience conducting user research, stakeholder interviews, usability testing, and incorporating user feedback into design decisions.
- Hands-on experience building and modifying user interfaces using HTML, CSS, JavaScript and responsive web design techniques.
- Working knowledge of modern front-end frameworks or libraries such as React, Angular, Vue.js (or comparable technologies).
- Experience translating UX/UI designs into functional, maintainable, and accessible user interfaces.
- Working knowledge of Section 508 accessibility requirements and WCAG standards, including application to both interface design and front-end development.
- Understanding of software development fundamentals including version control, testing, debugging, code documentation, and integration with existing applications.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to present design concepts, discuss technical feasibility, and work with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to independently identify improvement opportunities and manage assigned design and development activities across multiple systems.
