Senior ALC Developer
Job Description
Senior ALC Developer responsible for developing, maintaining, debugging, and optimizing Assembly Language Coding applications on an IBM Mainframe platform within a federal tax processing environment.
Responsibilities
- Develop, test, debug, and maintain Assembly Language Coding (ALC) applications on an IBM Mainframe platform
- Contribute to mainframe application development, optimization, and low-level performance tuning
- Support system integration efforts within a complex, high-availability environment
- Work extensively with Job Control Language (JCL), AEV JCL, VSAM, Panels, Copybooks, and Skeleton PROCS
- Troubleshoot and resolve production problems in a timely manner to sustain system availability
- Follow Production Environment Control Process (PECP) guidelines and manage ServiceNow ticket and Endevor transmittal processes
- Use CFOL Command Codes for research and support analysis of IRS Individual and Business Master Files
- Design, modify, and document coding changes for application enhancements and legislative mandates
- Perform peer reviews and ensure adherence to coding best practices
- Ensure software changes are defect-free before deployment to production
- Produce Enterprise Life Cycle (ELC) documentation such as DSR, iBSR, ICD, and TRR
- Utilize the IBM Engineering Lifecycle Management (ELM) Tool Suites, including DOORS Next, Jira, and Endevor
- Support Agile development practices and collaborate with stakeholders to define and implement technical solutions
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- At least 8 years of experience in ALC (Assembler Language) development
- Strong experience in mainframe application development, debugging, and optimization
- Expertise in system integration and working within a high-availability environment
- IBM Mainframe Assembly Language Coding (ALC)
- IBM Suite, File Manager, Job Control Language (JCL), AEV JCL, and IBM Debugger
- VSAM, Panels, Copybooks, and Skeleton PROCS
- Endevor and the Service Now ticket / Endevor transmittal processes
- IBM Engineering Lifecycle Management (ELM) Tool Suites, e.g., IBM Requirements Management
- DOORS Next and Jira
- CFOL Command Codes for research
- Strong problem-solving and debugging skills with attention to detail
- Knowledge of the IRS Individual and Business Master File systems is highly desirable
- Familiarity with Enterprise Life Cycle (ELC) process and documentation, and Agile methodologies
- Knowledge of RHEL 8 containerization and Cloud Migration is a plus
- Ability to collaborate in a team-oriented environment and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Adaptability in a fast-paced, evolving work environment with shifting priorities
- Must be able to obtain and maintain an IRS Minimum Background Investigation (MBI); U.S. work authorization required
