Mainframe Application Developer

OpTech LLC is hiring a Mainframe Application Developer / Business Systems Analyst for a fully remote role supporting healthcare-related applications. This position combines hands-on mainframe development with business requirements analysis, including lifecycle support from analysis through testing and implementation. What you’ll be doing

• Collaborate with business stakeholders and interfacing teams to gather, analyze, and document business requirements.
• Lead or participate in Joint Application Development (JAD) sessions and translate business needs into functional and technical specifications.
• Analyze, design, develop, test, and implement mainframe application enhancements and corrections.
• Develop and support batch and online applications using COBOL, JCL, DB2/SQL, and IMS/CICS.
• Convert requirements and functional specifications into test cases to ensure coverage of applicable business requirements.
• Create and run unit test plans and scripts to validate functionality against technical specifications.
• Participate in integration testing, technical inspections, and application implementation activities.
• Prepare and maintain Solution Delivery Methodology documentation and other required development artifacts.
• Analyze complex business processes and identify appropriate application solutions and alternatives.
• Support compliance with enterprise technology standards, governance processes, and established performance metrics.

What you bring

• Strong hands-on mainframe experience in application development, implementation, and support.
• Proficiency in COBOL, JCL, DB2/SQL, and IMS/CICS.
• Experience with both batch and online mainframe applications.
• Business analysis experience, including requirements gathering, documentation, and stakeholder communication.
• Experience leading or participating in JAD sessions and developing business requirements and functional specifications.
• Testing experience, including unit testing and integration testing.
• Ability to analyze complex problems and business processes and develop effective technical solutions.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and Access.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.

Skills and tools you’ll use

COBOL, JCL, DB2/SQL, IMS/CICS and Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Access.

Healthcare background (preferred)

• Experience with healthcare payer or health insurance industry environments.
• Familiarity with Medicare Advantage applications and processes.
• Experience with healthcare enrollment, member eligibility, and claims processing.
• Exposure to enhancements driven by governmental mandates and healthcare regulatory requirements.

Location: Remote
Compensation: USD 40 to 45 per hour
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field
