Junior Backend Software Engineer (Python or PHP)

Comcast Corporation, through FreeWheel (a Comcast company), is hiring a Junior Backend Software Engineer focused on Python or PHP. This Chicago onsite role supports the design, development, and integration of backend solutions that power DSP digital real-time bidding campaigns. You will contribute to efficient software delivery across the full lifecycle, from implementation and testing to integration planning and troubleshooting.

What you’ll do

• Write and maintain efficient backend code for software components, following established development best practices
• Support the design and development of new software applications aligned with business objectives
• Build and maintain testing frameworks to validate software quality, including unit and integration tests
• Document development processes, including design and deployment procedures, to improve knowledge sharing
• Assess integration needs and plan system architecture to meet technical specifications
• Review current practices and technical literature, applying engineering methodologies to project problem-solving
• Partner with Quality Assurance to confirm applications meet technical requirements and fit specifications
• Troubleshoot software issues and implement resolutions that enhance application performance and user satisfaction
• Exercise independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance
• Maintain regular, consistent, and punctual attendance, including the ability to work nights and weekends as needed due to variable schedules

Required background

• 2-5 years of relevant work experience
• Bachelor’s Degree (preferred), or alternative consideration based on some combination of coursework and experience, or extensive related professional experience
• Skills aligned to software development, collaboration, and willingness to learn

Compensation and application details

Salary range: USD 93,016 - 139,524 per year. Illinois Pay Range: $93,016.32 - $139,524.48 (base pay intended to be offered within this range based on job-related, non-discriminatory factors such as experience).
