Job Description

Global Information Systems, LLC is seeking an experienced GIS Automation Developer to design and support Python- and SQL-based automation for geospatial data analysis, reporting, and data migration. This remote role partners with technical teams and client stakeholders to improve GIS workflows using Esri technologies and data integration tooling.

What you will do

Design, develop, test, and maintain Python- and SQL-based GIS automation tools.
Create automated workflows for GIS data analysis, reporting, validation, transformation, and migration.
Maintain, troubleshoot, and enhance existing GIS applications, scripts, and data-processing tools.
Use Esri systems and technologies to manage, analyze, and process geospatial data.
Develop and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, and database processes that support GIS workflows.
Perform data-quality analysis and build automated validation and exception-reporting processes.
Support GIS data migrations, including data mapping, transformation, reconciliation, and verification.
Gather and interpret technical and business requirements, translating them into practical software solutions.
Create clear technical documentation for applications, scripts, processes, and workflows.
Collaborate with project managers, GIS professionals, developers, and client stakeholders.
Provide troubleshooting and production support for deployed GIS automation tools.
Participate in code reviews, testing, deployment, and ongoing process improvement.

Required qualifications

Three or more years of relevant development, automation, or data-engineering experience.
Strong Python skills, especially for GIS data processing and workflow automation.
Strong SQL skills with experience working with relational or enterprise databases.
Experience developing or maintaining GIS data-analysis, reporting, or migration tools.
Understanding of geospatial data structures, coordinate systems, data models, and data-quality principles.
Ability to troubleshoot applications, scripts, data, and automated processes.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively in a remote team environment.
This is a remote position, with preference for candidates located in or near Lexington, Kentucky.
Minimal travel may be required for client meetings, project activities, or company events.

Preferred skills

Experience supporting the energy, utility, or pipeline industries.
Experience with FME Form, FME Flow, or related data-integration technologies.
Experience with enterprise geodatabases and versioned GIS data.
Familiarity with Git and software version control.
Experience with automated testing, source-data validation, error handling, and logging.
Experience integrating GIS with enterprise databases, APIs, or other business systems.
Effective client communication and customer-service skills.

Responsibilities

Build, test, and maintain robust data pipelines, both batch and streaming, that clean, transform, and aggregate raw data into analytic ready data stores.
Implement data quality checks, smart caching, and virtualization techniques to guarantee consistency and reliability.
Build automated data management conduits that support machine learning data flows.
Collaborate with the Data Architect to create conceptual, logical, and physical data models that support business needs.
Define functional capabilities, security, backup, and recovery specifications for each solution.
Design and maintain systems that collect, store, and present data across the enterprise.
Conduct data profiling, requirement analysis, and performance tuning throughout the solution lifecycle.
Deploy, monitor, and optimize ETL/ELT processes and related reporting and analytics layers (for example Informatica, Talend).
Develop and implement data mining and data warehousing programs to enrich the enterprise data ecosystem.
Identify and resolve production incidents; tune system parameters for optimal throughput and latency.
Evaluate, integrate, and validate new releases or platform upgrades.
Manage the compilation, catalog ing, caching, distribution, and retrieval of data and maintain test data records.
Define and enforce best practice standards, certification processes, and metadata management policies for data objects.
Participate actively in the Data Governance Working Group.
Implement data management standards and ensure compliance with data classification and handling rules through access control and security best practices.
Assist early stage risk identification and mitigation for task order activities.
Support Critical Design Reviews and advise Integrated Product Teams on data related risks and mitigation strategies.
Serve as the technical liaison to Systems Engineering and IPT engineers to ensure complete, documented requirements allocation for IT and data systems.
Prepare and release engineering drawings and associated data system documentation.
Advise on and design the integration of new data technology solutions into the SOFSA enterprise IT environment, such as IBM Cloud Pak for Data.
Advise leadership on critical data management issues and emerging technology trends.
Report directly to the Data Architect and provide status updates on pipeline health, performance metrics, and risk registers.
Apply data acquisition, cleaning, transformation, and ingestion best practices for machine learning data conduits.
Assess and address methodological limitations to ensure reliable data delivery.
Read, interpret, write, modify, and execute simple scripts on Windows and UNIX systems for parsing large files and automating tasks.
Record, manage, and validate test data.
Establish data security controls, develop data dictionaries, and apply data mining techniques to locate data across systems.
Perform data pre processing, including imputation, normalization, transformation, and feature extraction.
Conduct transformation analytics such as aggregation, enrichment, and processing.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
Knowledge of data mining and data warehousing principles.
Experience with database management systems, query languages, table relationships, and views.
Proficiency with Hadoop, Java, Python, SQL, Hive, and PIG for data exploration.
Understanding of DataOps processes and best practices.
Awareness of data security roles and responsibilities and ability to implement access control and encryption safeguards.
