GIS Automation Developer
Job Description
Global Information Systems, LLC is seeking an experienced GIS Automation Developer to design and support Python- and SQL-based automation for geospatial data analysis, reporting, and data migration. This remote role partners with technical teams and client stakeholders to improve GIS workflows using Esri technologies and data integration tooling.
What you will do
- Design, develop, test, and maintain Python- and SQL-based GIS automation tools.
- Create automated workflows for GIS data analysis, reporting, validation, transformation, and migration.
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and enhance existing GIS applications, scripts, and data-processing tools.
- Use Esri systems and technologies to manage, analyze, and process geospatial data.
- Develop and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, and database processes that support GIS workflows.
- Perform data-quality analysis and build automated validation and exception-reporting processes.
- Support GIS data migrations, including data mapping, transformation, reconciliation, and verification.
- Gather and interpret technical and business requirements, translating them into practical software solutions.
- Create clear technical documentation for applications, scripts, processes, and workflows.
- Collaborate with project managers, GIS professionals, developers, and client stakeholders.
- Provide troubleshooting and production support for deployed GIS automation tools.
- Participate in code reviews, testing, deployment, and ongoing process improvement.
Required qualifications
- Three or more years of relevant development, automation, or data-engineering experience.
- Strong Python skills, especially for GIS data processing and workflow automation.
- Strong SQL skills with experience working with relational or enterprise databases.
- Experience developing or maintaining GIS data-analysis, reporting, or migration tools.
- Understanding of geospatial data structures, coordinate systems, data models, and data-quality principles.
- Ability to troubleshoot applications, scripts, data, and automated processes.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively in a remote team environment.
- This is a remote position, with preference for candidates located in or near Lexington, Kentucky.
- Minimal travel may be required for client meetings, project activities, or company events.
Preferred skills
- Experience supporting the energy, utility, or pipeline industries.
- Experience with FME Form, FME Flow, or related data-integration technologies.
- Experience with enterprise geodatabases and versioned GIS data.
- Familiarity with Git and software version control.
- Experience with automated testing, source-data validation, error handling, and logging.
- Experience integrating GIS with enterprise databases, APIs, or other business systems.
- Effective client communication and customer-service skills.

Education
- A four-year degree in GIS, geography, computer science, information systems, engineering, or a related field is preferred.
