VDC Software Developer

Based onsite in Libertyville, Illinois, Aldridge Electric is seeking a VDC Software Developer to join the team. This role centers on designing, coding, and maintaining bespoke plugins and automation scripts that power BIM and VDC workflows, tailoring software to improve efficiency across projects. The position offers a salary range of USD 100,000 to 130,000 per year.

Responsibilities

• Design, code, and maintain custom plugins and add-ins for core platforms such as Autodesk Revit and Navisworks.
• Develop automation scripts with Python, Dynamo, or C# to streamline repetitive tasks like data entry, sheet setup, and model auditing.
• Leverage the Revit API and other software APIs to extend existing capabilities and integrate new features.
• Troubleshoot interoperability challenges and debug custom-built applications to ensure stable operation.
• Continuously explore emerging technologies, including AI and cloud-based automation, to improve project delivery.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Business Management or another construction-related field; equivalent AEC industry experience is also considered.
• 3-5+ years of relevant work experience within the AEC industry.
• Strong proficiency in C# (.NET) for plugin development and Python for general automation.
• Expertise in Dynamo (Revit) or Grasshopper (Rhino) for computational design workflows.
• Advanced knowledge of Autodesk Revit, Navisworks, and Common Data Environments such as Autodesk Construction Cloud.
• Experience with SQL or NoSQL for managing large datasets extracted from models.
• Ability to identify industry trends and evaluate technologies like AI or Generative Design for integration into the tech stack.
• Capability to translate technical code into tangible benefits for non-technical project managers.
• Strong focus on identifying workflow bottlenecks and designing scalable, logical solutions.
