New Avenue is seeking a skilled Architect / Project Manager / Designer to lead the development of new housing projects in California from its Berkeley base, with flexible remote options. This role blends architectural and design work with permitting oversight and hands-on project management, guiding initiatives from first inquiry through post-inspection follow-ups. The position emphasizes collaboration across design, construction, and policy engagement to deliver homeowner-centered homes that aim for health, happiness, and lasting value.
Responsibilities
- Guide the full project lifecycle for housing developments, from the initial phone inquiry to follow-up visits a year after final inspection.
Requirements
- Design capability, including significant hands-on work in Revit.
- Permitting experience, with the ability to push back on arbitrary policies; for example, challenging unwarranted water meter fees when state law prohibits them.
- Project management skills, with accountability and schedule tracking.
- Proficiency with GSuite, specifically Google Slides and Google Sheets.
- Strong communication and writing abilities, maintaining a highly professional, clear, and over-communicative style.
- Ability to advise team members in both design and construction on site, including addressing issues with construction workers and providing constructive support.
- Team-oriented mindset; capable of leading and collaborating with accountants, interior designers, drafters, and contractors in a positive, productive way.
- Experience leading residential projects, including submitting Use Permits, AUPs, building permit submittals, and presenting to government boards.
- A track record of independently obtaining building permits.

Remote work

Compensation
The stated salary range is USD 80,000 to 250,000 per year. Candidates who meet all criteria can expect the higher end of the range; those meeting fewer criteria will start at the lower end, with a 2β5 year plan to progress toward the top end.
