Software Engineer - Early Career - Landmark
Job Description
Halliburton’s Landmark builds software and data platforms that oil and gas operators rely on for real-world decisions. In this early-career Software Engineer role, you will join a delivery team and begin shipping production code quickly, with mentorship and code review support as you grow into larger, production-grade systems.
This onsite position is based in Houston, Texas, working within a distributed team that spans time zones. You will build features used by energy companies worldwide, debug defects in live systems, and develop automated testing and secure coding habits as part of a standard delivery workflow.
What you will do
- Build, test, and ship features for products in active use by energy companies worldwide
- Debug and fix defects in production systems, learning how large-scale applications behave under real conditions
- Write and maintain automated tests as part of the team’s standard delivery workflow
- Participate in code reviews by reading teammates’ code, receiving feedback on yours, and learning the codebase through both activities
- Follow secure coding practices, triage security issues when they arise, and apply fixes to deliver secure applications
- Contribute to technical documentation for the systems and features you work on
- Work within a distributed team across time zones, communicating clearly and consistently about progress and blockers
- Research and evaluate open-source tools and libraries that can improve the systems you work on
- Grow your understanding of the product domain through the work itself
Education and experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent professional experience)
- 0–5 years of software development experience
- Working knowledge of at least one modern programming language and standard development tooling, including version control, build systems, and testing frameworks
Technologies you may work with
Technologies vary by team and product domain. Examples include Java, C#, F#, C++, Python, TypeScript, .NET, Angular, React, Node.js, and cloud platforms such as Azure and AWS. Teams also commonly use Docker and Kubernetes, with infrastructure and deployment tooling such as Terraform, Ansible, Helm, and Argo CD/Flux. Datastores include PostgreSQL, SQL Server, Oracle, and MongoDB.
Teams and product domains
Positions are available across a range of teams. Team assignment determines both the product domain you work in and the technologies you use. Domains include:
- Geoscience (geology, geophysics, or petrophysics)
- Drilling engineering and well planning
