Software Engineer

viva is hiring an entry-level Software Engineer for an onsite product team in Johnston, IA. In this role, you will support call center software functionality by writing and testing code, onboarding features, and helping keep implementations aligned with business needs. Work is reviewed by supervisors prior to deployment, with development following agile software design methodology.

Role overview

As a Software Engineer on the product team, you will develop, configure, test, and document programs and systems in a call center environment. You will also evaluate enhancement designs, translate assignments into software specifications, and collaborate with stakeholders to ensure delivered features meet objectives.

Responsibilities

• Develop, code, configure, and test programs and systems for call center operations.
• Evaluate and implement enhancement design solutions aimed at improving cost, quality, and performance of software applications.
• Onboard new features within the call center software.
• Analyze assigned work to determine the software specifications needed to meet objectives.
• Complete required documentation as directed or when needed.
• Collaborate with relevant stakeholders and team members to ensure features align with business needs.
• Follow industry-standard agile software design methodology for both development and documentation.
• Support programming and internal users, including managing and developing applications and servers, plus performing data analysis.

Required qualifications

• Ability to analyze, translate, and define business requirements into technical solutions.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with emphasis on persuasive communication, tact, and negotiation.
• Ability to apply engineering principles and concepts to design work.
• Capacity to manage many competing priorities and requests in a fast-paced environment.
• University degree (4 years or equivalent) in an Engineering/Technology or Information Technology discipline, or equivalent experience.
• Programming/software development experience (1 to 3 years).
• Software development process experience (1 to 3 years).
• Experience participating in Agile Development (1 to 3 years).
• Experience working in an Agile environment (1 to 3 years).

Schedule and compensation

This is an onsite role in Johnston, IA with a 1st shift schedule from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, with minimal overtime. Compensation is $23 to $28 per hour.

Minimum experience: 1 year. Education: University Degree (4 years or equivalent) in Engineering/Technology or Information Technology, or equivalent experience.
