Software Engineer

The Software Engineer will design and deliver software and modeling solutions for AI-enabled camera silicon at Ambarella. The role focuses on standards-based real-time hardware video codecs and spans the full software development lifecycle, including collaboration across teams to improve existing technologies and develop next-generation codec solutions.

Onsite Location

Dayton (Beavercreek), Ohio (onsite)

Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize video codec algorithms with a focus on video quality, low latency, and hardware efficiency.
• Implement and maintain reference codec models.
• Collaborate on silicon architecture modeling and hardware/software co-design.
• Develop silicon verification and diagnostic tools.
• Design and maintain real-time product firmware.
• Implement and tune software rate control algorithms.
• Work with engineering teams to integrate and validate codec solutions.

Required Qualifications

• Strong programming skills in C and C++.
• Experience in embedded software development.
• Familiarity with video compression standards such as H.264, H.265/HEVC, AV1, or similar.
• Strong problem-solving and debugging capabilities.
• Experience utilizing AI-assisted development tools to improve software design, coding, testing, debugging, and documentation efficiency.

Technology Focus

The role will work with C, C++, and video codec technologies including H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1.

Experience Level

• 1 to 5 years of relevant experience in software or embedded systems development
