Software Engineer
Job Description
Metron is seeking a Software Engineer to join our Reston, Virginia team onsite, focused on building and maturing software for simulation, optimization, and decision support in mission oriented environments. This role covers the full technology stack, contributing to backend infrastructure as well as frontend applications, and turning complex ideas into reliable production software. The position requires a bachelor’s degree and a track record of hands-on development experience.
Responsibilities
- Develop and evolve technically advanced software for simulation, optimization, and decision support in mission-focused settings.
- Contribute across the stack, including backend infrastructure and frontend web interfaces, translating complex technical concepts into maintainable production software.
- Engage across the full development lifecycle, from early concept exploration and prototyping through implementation, demonstrations, and deployment.
- Advance capabilities from prototype to operational use by applying solid software engineering fundamentals and sound technical judgment.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, mathematics, physics, applied math, or a related field
- At least 2 years of industry experience
- Experience with modern front-end development frameworks and tooling, especially React, TypeScript, and state management patterns
- Experience building backend services and APIs in languages such as Java or Rust
- Experience developing software in a collaborative environment where readability, maintainability, and disciplined engineering practices matter
- Ability to work effectively with researchers, engineers, and end users to translate technical concepts into usable software
- Familiarity with full-stack web application development in any frameworks/languages
- U.S. citizenship required; candidates will be subject to a security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information
