Job Description

Battelle is seeking a full-time Software Developer for a DHS client program supporting mission-focused work in the greater Washington, DC area. This hybrid role is based in Crystal City, VA and involves designing, developing, and improving software and specialized utilities aligned to DHS requirements.

In this position, you will contribute to challenging technical efforts while operating in an environment that emphasizes collaboration, meaningful impact, and ongoing growth. You can also expect a compressed work schedule with every other Friday off, along with enhanced work flexibility using a hybrid arrangement (60% in-office and 40% remote) with Monday and Tuesday as common in-office days, dependent on team and position needs.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and improve computer and network software, specialized utilities, and database systems based on user needs and mission requirements
  • Analyze user and system requirements and apply computer science, engineering, and mathematical principles to build effective software solutions
  • Update and enhance existing software applications to improve performance, functionality, and user experience
  • Maintain and develop databases within specific application areas, independently and as part of a team
  • Collaborate with hardware engineers to integrate systems and define performance specifications where applicable
  • Support system-level analysis and integration efforts, including assessment of threats and vulnerabilities as they relate to software systems
  • Assist with technical assessment and evaluation activities to complement government technical experts applying acquisition efforts and RDT&E toward the DHS mission
  • Communicate technical findings and recommendations effectively in both written and verbal formats to diverse stakeholders

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of relevant software development experience
  • Experience in software development and database design and maintenance
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal formats with diverse stakeholders
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities independently
  • Secret clearance with ability to obtain DHS Suitability

Compensation: Salary range is $135,000 – $155,000 per year, in addition to a comprehensive benefits package. Final compensation may vary based on education, relevant work experience, skills, and certifications, and salary ranges may vary by geographic location and market conditions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience supporting DHS programs
  • Active DHS Suitability
  • Experience providing assistance with program planning and oversight, exercise development and execution, and program evaluation
  • Experience with system-level analysis, system integration support, and understanding of threats and vulnerabilities
  • Experience with technical assessment and evaluation to support government technical experts applying acquisition efforts and RDT&E toward accomplishing the DHS mission
