Job Description

Rockwell Automation builds FactoryTalk Optix, industry-leading visualization and HMI software used to design applications that help control production processes across a range of environments. In this hybrid role in Milwaukee, WI, you will contribute to subsystem design, implementation, and testing as part of a team delivering software that meets requirements and supports total quality management standards. You will work with global partners and participate across the development lifecycle.

What you’ll do

  • Collect, contribute to, and document feature requirements and component specifications so the information needed for software development and corresponding test cases is complete.
  • Create new subsystem designs or contribute to existing ones to ensure alignment with established requirements.
  • Implement and document code according to the software design requirements.
  • Plan, execute, and maintain detailed unit test plans, including reporting, analyzing, debugging, and correcting anomalies.
  • Review documents, designs, code, test cases, and user documentation.
  • Estimate, develop, and execute test suites, test cases, and automated tests to achieve appropriate functional test coverage.
  • Validate that documented test cases and specifications confirm the documented software requirements.
  • Perform product testing, document results, and report problems for follow-up.
  • Identify the origin and cause of anomalies found during testing or validation.
  • Build working relationships with peers to help prioritize assigned tasks.
  • Contribute to improvements in software development practices, development tools, and test automation.
  • Research and explore new technologies and standards to address challenges.
  • Communicate and convey design concepts verbally and in writing, including working with complex control system concepts.
  • Provide mentorship to other engineers on the team.

What you’ll bring

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent years of relevant work experience.
  • Legal authorization to work in the US is required.
  • Typically requires 4 years of relevant technical experience.
  • Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Experience in a software product development environment.

Helpful experience (preferred)

  • Programming experience with C++, C#, and TypeScript.
  • Framework experience with Qt, .NET, and React.
  • Experience creating, configuring, and managing container infrastructure using Kubernetes, Helm, and Docker.
  • Experience building and maintaining applications leveraging MariaDB, including schema design, query optimization, and performance tuning.
  • Experience using AI Models for design, debugging, and implementation.
  • Experience creating or updating GitHub Actions.
  • Experience with Visual Studio and Visual Studio Code.
  • Experience documenting and reviewing designs.
  • Familiarity with Linux and WSL.
