The Embedded Software Engineer role partners with software and hardware teams to build code and documentation for system control and monitoring within Continental Electronics Corporation (CEC) products and systems. This position is based onsite in Richardson, TX.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop software solutions by collaborating with users and analyzing system flow, data usage, and work processes
- Use the software development lifecycle to anticipate potential problem areas
- Assess operational feasibility by evaluating problem definition, requirements, and proposed solutions
- Document and demonstrate solutions through flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, charts, clear code comments, and well-structured code
- Maintain current knowledge of modern development tools, programming practices, and computing equipment through education, professional reading, and participation in professional networks and organizations
- Provide advice and coaching and participate in product or system design reviews to support organizational needs

Required Qualifications
- Ability to obtain a DoD-issued Secret Clearance
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a similar technical discipline
- 5+ years of experience as a software engineer, including demonstrated success developing a variety of software systems and/or 5+ years developing control and monitoring applications using custom register interfaces and TCP protocols as part of the overall application architecture
- Experience developing and troubleshooting complex software systems running in mixed environments, including Linux, Unix and/or Windows across desktop, server, tablet, and mobile platforms, with TCP/IP debugging using ICDs
- Experience configuring and using one or more of the following: Linux, C/C++, TCP/IP networking, and web development with JavaScript, Node.js, and GTK+3.x (or similar)
- Hands-on work with lower-level communication protocols, high power lab/test equipment, schematics, and board-level parts
- Occasional international travel required, up to 12 weeks per year

- UI and human-computer interaction design using GLADE, React, Ignition, or similar tooling
- Ability to modify, design, develop, and debug device drivers for I2C, SPI, UART, USB, PCIe, and GPIO
- Script tooling experience: Python, BASH, Lua, CSH, Perl, TCL/TK
- Virtualization and simulation experience involving Git, SVN, Jira, Buildroot, OpenEmbedded
- Automated testing and build optimization experience
- Nice to have prior RF (radio frequency) experience
