Job Description

Senior Application Software Engineer for Oracle Government Defense & Intelligence to build and operate secure, scalable application services for sovereign and government cloud environments.

Location: Reston, VA onsite

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, test, and maintain secure software, services, APIs, and integrations.
  • Deliver medium-sized features and quality improvements with measurable gains in reliability, performance, and maintainability.
  • Convert ambiguous requirements into scalable designs, implementation plans, and technical documentation.
  • Lead code reviews in assigned application areas and suggest improvements to development practices.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve moderately complex issues across applications, APIs, integrations, and production environments.
  • Participate in production support, incident investigations, root-cause analyses, observability enhancements, and operational readiness efforts.
  • Collaborate with QA and engineering teams to define test strategy and ensure consistency across modules.
  • Mentor junior engineers and work cross-functionally on feature delivery and service improvements.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship with an active US Government security clearance at hire, TS/SCI with Poly.
  • 8 years of software development experience; or a bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical field with 4 years of software development experience; or a master’s degree with 2 years of experience; or a doctorate in a relevant technical field.
  • 4 years of experience with programming and/or scripting languages.
  • 3 years of experience with databases.
  • Experience with distributed systems, software engineering practices, API development or integration, source control, debugging, and secure development.
  • Ability to communicate technical ideas clearly through design docs, implementation notes, code reviews, and operational handoffs.
  • 8 years of software development experience or equivalent advanced degree plus experience.
  • 2 years of experience with cloud platforms such as Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Experience with RESTful APIs, microservices, CI/CD, containers, Kubernetes, Linux, observability, incident response, and reliability improvement.
  • Experience contributing to production services in regulated, classified, sovereign, or air-gapped environments.
