This onsite Principal Software Engineer role is based in Boulder, CO, with a salary range of $180,000-$220,000 per year. A Bachelor's degree and at least 10 years of experience are required, and the position centers on technical leadership of the software platform that interfaces with hardware control and calibration systems. The backend is built in Python and Rust, with a TypeScript/React frontend.

Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership for a core area of our software platform, guiding design and execution, and aligning your area with the broader team roadmap
- Drive architectural decisions across the software stack that orchestrates quantum computing on our systems, interfacing with hardware control and calibration systems owned by a partner team, and managing the experimental data produced
- Invent novel technologies and solutions to advance the technology roadmap, with opportunities to contribute to inventions and patents
- Rewrite and productionize prototype code from our Quantum Engineers, turning research code into reliable, well-tested, maintainable services and establishing team-wide patterns
- Mentor engineers across the team to elevate code quality, design, documentation, and engineering practices
- Deploy, monitor, and support the production platform, participating in a team on-call rotation to ensure reliable access to quantum computers
- Collaborate with the infrastructure team to strengthen CI/CD pipelines and accelerate and stabilize how we ship
- Represent Atom Computing's engineering work externally in customer and partner engagements and in the broader technical community
Requirements
- A passion for writing software and a proven track record of designing and implementing architecture-level features in complex systems
- Proficiency with Python and SQL
- Experience developing and operating software in Linux environments
- Familiarity with Git, automated testing, and modern software development practices
- Bachelor's degree required
- At least 10 years of software development experience
- Willingness to learn atomic, optical, laser physics, and quantum mechanics concepts to contextualize your work
