MS Fabric Data Engineer
Job Description
Preferred Credit, Inc. is seeking an MS Fabric Data Engineer to design and build data pipelines, implement Medallion architecture, and migrate from SQL Server to Microsoft Fabric using PySpark, dbt, and Power BI. This role is based in Saint Cloud, Minnesota with a hybrid work setup, driving enterprise data initiatives across Central Minnesota. The successful candidate will collaborate with analytics and engineering teams to deliver scalable, modern data solutions.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement ingestion pipelines from on-premises SQL Server and other sources into Fabric using Mirroring, Copy Activity/Data Factory pipelines, and Fabric Notebooks.
- Develop and maintain Bronze, Silver, and Gold transformations with PySpark notebooks and dbt (Data Build Tool).
- Handle schema evolution, implement watermark-based incremental loads, and enforce data quality checks across pipeline layers (row count drift, freshness, referential integrity).
- Provide off-hours support to address data pipeline failures or critical production data issues.
- Translate existing on-premises stored procedures and ETL logic into Fabric-native pipelines and dbt models as part of the SQL Server to Fabric migration.
- Identify and remediate data pipeline failures, performance bottlenecks, and capacity constraints within Fabric capacity limits.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent program, or equivalent experience.
- 3–4 years of overall data engineering experience, with 1–2+ years of hands-on Microsoft Fabric experience.
- Proficiency in PySpark and/or Python for data transformation and pipeline development.
- Strong T-SQL skills and understanding of relational databases and dimensional modeling concepts.

Location & Work Setting

- Schedule: Full-time, Monday–Friday, 8:00am–5:00pm CST
- Work setting: Hybrid
- Must reside in Central Minnesota with a reasonable commute to St. Cloud, MN due to in-office requirements

Compensation
Starting salary is $82,000 to $102,500 per year. The stated range reflects the budgeted amount for this role; final offers depend on factors such as skill set, experience, location, and other job-related considerations.
