Front-End Developer - Clearance Required
Job Description
LMI is seeking a mid-level Front-End Developer to build mission-critical applications for a DoD customer hosted on AWS GovCloud. This role requires an active DoD Secret clearance and favors candidates located in San Diego, CA, with a hybrid work arrangement. The successful candidate will translate validated human-centered design work into robust, frontend solutions that can scale across multiple mission applications.
Responsibilities
- Translate validated HCD designs into production-ready front-end code, preserving fidelity to the research-backed user experience.
- Own the UI component layer by developing a reusable, maintainable component library that can be reused across successive mission applications.
- Collaborate closely with the HCD researcher throughout development, surfacing technical constraints, proposing viable alternatives, and ensuring implementation aligns with usability testing outcomes.
- Integrate front-end components with RESTful APIs provided by the full-stack team, ensuring data flows are correctly surfaced in the interface.
- Adhere to accessibility standards and responsive design principles suitable for classified government environments.
- Deliver features incrementally and stay engaged with users to validate functionality in real-world contexts rather than pursuing perfection in isolation.
Requirements
- Active DoD Secret clearance
- 3+ years of front-end development experience with demonstrated proficiency in React, JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS3
- Genuine fluency in human-centered design and UX principles, with demonstrated experience working within an HCD process and delivering outcomes aligned to validated designs
- Experience collaborating directly with UX researchers or HCD practitioners, translating research-validated wireframes and prototypes into high-fidelity front-end code
- Experience building and maintaining reusable component libraries or design systems
- Experience integrating front-end applications with RESTful APIs
- Strong understanding of responsive design, accessibility standards (WCAG), and performance optimization
- Ability to move quickly and iterate without heavy specifications or detailed tickets

What will set you apart
- Experience developing software in DoD or IC environments with federal security and compliance requirements, secure coding practices, access control, auditability, and deployment constraints in accredited systems
- Hands-on experience with AWS GovCloud and DoD-accredited DevSecOps platforms, and an understanding of how classified environment constraints affect front-end tooling and deployment
- Experience building on platforms up to IL6, or familiarity with DoD Impact Level requirements and how they shape front-end architecture decisions
- Experience contributing to or leading a component library or design system used across multiple applications or product lines
- A portfolio demonstrating both technical execution and design sensibility, showing ability to differentiate between strong and weak user experiences in code
- SOF operator or SOF-support background with understanding of SOF core activities and mission sets
