Overview
Sargent & Lundy Consulting (SLC) partners with clients to support electric power projects. The team evaluates and optimizes technical, commercial, environmental, and financial aspects of projects for a diverse client base.
Responsibilities
- Provide development support, conceptual design, and owner’s engineer services to clients, including performing technical evaluations of electric power generation projects and facilities.
- Support project economics and cost analyses, risk assessments, and contract development.
- Carry out engineering design reviews, technical due diligence, project development support, and conceptual design activities.
- Specifically, demonstrate experience in mechanical design for conventional power projects is preferred.
- Willingness to travel within the United States and internationally.

Essential skills and experience
- BS in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) from an ABET-accredited program with a strong academic background.
- Ten years or more of experience in the electric power industry, including detailed design of mechanical systems for conventional power projects, specifically one or more of the following:
- Simple cycle gas turbines
- Combined cycle projects
- Coal-fired generation
- Steam systems
- Reciprocating engines (RICE)
- Experience in development support and conceptual design of conventional power projects.
- Excellent technical communication and writing skills.
Valued but not required skills and experience
- Experience in technical due diligence and owner’s engineering design reviews of conventional power projects.
- General understanding of power station operations and performance reviews.
- General understanding of process design at electric power generation facilities.
- Experience with economic analyses, cost analysis, and contract development.
- Familiarity with international design codes and standards is preferred.

Leaders in these roles often direct automation and process-improvement work, including how teams automate calculations, summarize technical documents, or generate design documentation, and they guide when and how AI or agentic AI tools are used while ensuring results are checked.
Overseeing engineers who program or script (for example, Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate engineering tasks, with review of automated outputs, is valued but not required.
We value additional learning, such as a minor, certificate, or other experience in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields that enables effective oversight of automation and agentic AI-enabled engineering workflows.

Compensation Range: $116,620.00 - $179,890.00
