This remote role focuses on backend engineering, cloud infrastructure maintenance, and active participation in operational support.
Role Overview
In this position, you will lead backend development and take direct responsibility for the services you build, including deployment, day-to-day operation, and ongoing health monitoring in production. You will collaborate across teams to maintain production environments, improve reliability, and ensure backend systems, APIs, and data contracts meet stakeholder needs.

- Partner with the CloudEng Team to maintain and improve production environments, including monitoring and alerting using tools such as OpenTelemetry, Sentry, Prometheus, and Grafana.
- Participate in an on-call / off-hours rotation to triage and resolve production issues, working with CloudEng and support teams during incident investigation, bug resolution, and service stabilization.
- Periodically rotate into support to manage releases, dependency updates, and incoming work requests from customer support and other stakeholders.
- Apply AI-assisted development tools thoughtfully to improve speed and quality while maintaining good judgment about appropriate use.
- Support stakeholders such as front-end and platform teams to ensure backend systems, APIs, and data contracts align with their needs.
- Collaborate with frontend and cross-functional partners on project goals, contributing to API design and ensuring backend delivery matches contract expectations.
- Participate in code reviews to uphold high standards for code quality and system reliability.
- Participate in security and privacy reviews to ensure data protection measures meet compliance standards.
Requirements
- 4+ years of experience in software development with a strong focus on backend technologies.
- Strong professional experience with Python, TypeScript/Node.js, or Rust for building back-end services, with confidence leading back-end engineering projects.
- Proficiency with PostgreSQL and SQL query optimization, including relational schema design and migrations using a query builder such as Knex.
- Hands-on DevOps experience on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), including Docker-based build and deploy pipelines, with comfort deploying, operating, and troubleshooting cloud services.
- Hands-on experience with observability and monitoring tools such as Sentry and Grafana.
- Pragmatic commitment to shipping quality work, with sensible trade-offs under real constraints and consistent progress into production.
- Strong engineering judgment to navigate ambiguity and make decisions with incomplete information, including knowing when to ask for input.
