Job Description

Epsilon Systems Solutions Inc is hiring a Senior Software Engineer I (OpenShift Subject Matter Expert) for the Agile Core Services (ACS) team in San Diego, CA (onsite). This role supports an Agile Scrum environment where you design, code, integrate, and operate a Platform as a Service (PaaS) solution, with a strong focus on OpenShift and container platform expertise. You will also contribute to DevSecOps and operational readiness by deploying and troubleshooting solutions in real fleet and test environments.

What You’ll Do

  • Enable and train the development team on OpenShift deployment and maintenance, container-native application development, and microservice design patterns.
  • Own container platform ecosystem activities including installation, upgrade, patching, and monitoring.
  • Support container platform change management for new OpenShift versions, hotfixes, and sysadmin tasks.
  • Design, implement, develop, and integrate software that powers infrastructure services for data mediation, orchestration, and machine-to-machine messaging.
  • Integrate multi-functional applications into container-based support services.
  • Write well-designed, testable, and efficient code that meets technical requirements.
  • Contribute across the full software lifecycle in a collaborative team using Agile/SCRUM practices.
  • Troubleshoot code defects and deliver timely fixes, including deployment and operational support.
  • Deploy software into operational environments and support installing, deploying, and troubleshooting at Fleet and Navy test facilities.
  • Report findings from troubleshooting efforts and review technical documentation relevant to Fleet needs.
  • Support ticket-driven workflows by creating, updating, and closing items, with tracking in Confluence and JIRA.
  • May be asked to join the Operations Team to support installations and system maintenance across locations ranging from local labs to international naval shore sites and onboard naval vessels.
  • Travel is expected at approximately 2 weeks per year (5%) from San Diego to CONUS and OCONUS locations.

Key Technologies

OpenShift, container native applications, microservice design patterns, container platform ecosystem (installation, upgrade, patching, monitoring), Docker, CI/CD, Kubernetes, cluster administration, scaling, monitoring, troubleshooting, Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), Ansible, Python, Confluence, JIRA, and Hotfixes (plus Security+ / DOD IAT Level II compliance requirements).

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.
  • 6+ years of experience in a software engineering role.
  • Existing US Security Clearance (Interim SECRET or above).
  • Security+/DOD IAT Level II Certification required.
  • Experience researching, analyzing, installing, and testing software updates, patches, and hotfixes, including troubleshooting software code issues and reporting findings.
  • 4+ years hands-on experience building, deploying, and managing containerized applications (including Docker, container lifecycle management, and CI/CD integration).
  • 4+ years practical experience with container orchestration platforms such as Red Hat OpenShift or Kubernetes (cluster administration, scaling, monitoring, and troubleshooting).
  • Hands-on experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), Ansible, and Python.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with business users and management.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a cooperative environment.
  • Effective written, oral, and presentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active TS/SCI Security Clearance.
  • Two years of experience managing or developing OpenShift or Kubernetes infrastructures.
  • Experience with and understanding of KubeFrame.
  • Experience with additional container, virtualization, or cloud technologies (including Red Hat OpenShift, Kubernetes, Docker, VMware vSphere, AWS, and others).
  • Exposure to DISA, NIST, or STIG security guidelines and adherence practices.

Compensation: USD 141,000 - 230,000 per year.
