Staff Application Software Engineer

Matlen Silver is seeking a Staff Application Software Engineer (contingent worker/contractor) to support a fast ramp-up on complex application software for client robotic-assisted surgery products. This onsite role in Florida is structured around Agile and disciplined software engineering practices, with the goal of delivering safe, robust, production-ready code.

The engineer in this position will work closely with engineering teams and subject matter experts, quickly bringing context from an existing architecture and development workflow into independent design and implementation. Expect ownership of application software components, strong quality practices through the defined SDLC, and clear technical communication across the project.

Responsibilities

• Rapidly understand the existing architecture, codebase, and development workflows.
• Independently design and develop application software components based on defined requirements and architecture, adhering to design principles and coding standards.
• Collaborate with the project management team and other engineers to support project success as a technical contributor.
• Follow defined SDLC procedures to maintain software quality through code review, unit and component tests, code analysis, and defect management.
• Author software engineering documentation according to R&D procedures within the Quality Management System.
• Communicate progress, risks, and technical decisions clearly.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Software Engineering / Computer Science or a related discipline and 4+ years of work experience.
• Production environment proficiency in C++ and Object-Oriented programming.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior contractor or consulting experience with a track record of joining teams mid-stream and ramping up quickly.
• Experience with Qt/QML, Linux, and/or Docker.
• Knowledge of full SDLC and Agile software development with tools covering static/dynamic analysis, memory management, unit testing, code coverage, CI/CD, security, and task/defect/requirement management.
• Knowledge of linear algebra, computational geometry, computer graphics, and software architecture design (including design patterns and software modeling).
• Experience with medical imaging, image processing, computer vision, algorithm development, computer-assisted surgery, or robotics.
• Experience with biomedical software development or software development in a regulated environment.
