Job Description
American Express is hiring a Software Engineer II in Sunrise, FL (onsite). You’ll build and improve software applications in a role that supports quality through code reviews and automated testing, while partnering across environments with a focus on security and regulatory best practices. The position offers USD 103,750 - 174,750 per year, plus a benefits package designed to support your health, growth, and long-term security.
What you’ll do
You will design, develop, test, and debug software applications, contributing to software builds and maintaining quality standards. In this role, you’ll complete code reviews and participate in automated testing with guidance to help ensure consistent outcomes. You will also support, monitor, and maintain software across environments while adhering to security and regulatory best practices.

What you bring
- Degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related field
- Minimum 5 years of professional software development experience working with Java technologies such as Vertx, Spring, Spring Boot, RESTful micro services, PostgreSQL, Cassandra, Kafka, Python, IntelliJ, Couchbase, OpenSearch, and RESTful API’s
- Hands-on experience with application design, software development, and automated testing
- Experience with distributed (multi-tiered) systems, algorithms, and relational or NoSQL databases
- Ability to interpret technical and business objectives and translate them into clear solutions
- Ability to learn and investigate new technology and business domains, question status quo, and think outside of the box
- Ability to debug basic software components and identify code defects for remediation
- Experience working in Agile or other rapid application development methods
- Experience with automation testing and documentation (automated, functional, and performance) and related technologies: Karate, Postman, Cucumber, Playwright, Selenium, Jenkins, Github Actions
- Ability to build automated CI/CD pipelines with quality gates, test automation, and automated approvals
- Working experience with public cloud and related technologies: AWS, GCP, Kubernetes
- Experience leveraging and building Agent Skills and prompt engineering
- Proficient oral and written communication skills
- Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the United States is required; the company will not pursue visa sponsorship for these positions
