Job Description

Travelers is hiring a Software Engineer I to support intermediate end-to-end engineering work tied to defined system assignments. This onsite role in Saint Paul, MN focuses on full-stack delivery using MERN or equivalent technologies, along with practical familiarity with AWS, REST APIs, and modern architecture patterns.

Role Overview

The Software Engineer I will complete intermediate complexity engineering tasks for specific system assignments. Work includes developing, analyzing, configuring, testing, debugging, troubleshooting, documenting, and implementing solutions based on user or system design specifications. The role also involves health monitoring and alerting, plus troubleshooting, impact analysis, and appropriate escalation when issues arise.

Responsibilities

  • Handle analysis, design, development, and configuration work, including defining technical requirements for assignments of intermediate complexity.
  • Collaborate with the team on analysis, assessment, and resolution of defects and incidents of intermediate complexity, with appropriate escalation.
  • Work independently on well-scoped problems within team-established guidelines.
  • Identify opportunities to expand technical knowledge and capabilities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong full-stack development experience with MERN (MongoDB, Express, React, Node) or equivalent stacks (Java/.NET).
  • Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript and REST APIs.
  • Familiarity with AWS.
  • Familiarity with event streaming (Kafka).
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines with test automation.
  • Familiarity with modern architecture patterns, including microservices, containerization, and real-time or batch data processing.
  • Authorization to work for any employer in the U.S.
  • 2 additional years of software engineering experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, a related STEM field, or its equivalent in education and/or work experience.

Compensation

Salary Range: USD $99,100.00 to $163,400.00 per year.

The annual base salary range provided represents a nationwide market range and varies based on factors including scope, complexity, and location, as well as the candidate’s skills, education, training, credentials, experience, and other conditions of employment. Employees may also be eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards as part of Travelers’ comprehensive compensation and benefits program.
