Software Engineer, Backend (AI-Native)
Job Description
Alpha Nodus, Inc. seeks a Software Engineer, Backend (AI-Native) to design and own backend services that power AI-driven healthcare automation. The role centers on customer-facing development with direct client interaction and AI-assisted tooling, on-site in Sunrise, Florida (ZIP 33319).
Responsibilities
- Design and deliver backend services and APIs using AWS serverless infrastructure.
- Create event-driven workflows capable of processing large volumes of documents, transactions, and system events.
- Establish and troubleshoot secure connections to customer environments, including site-to-site VPNs, private networking, and on‑prem integration gateways.
- Integrate with third-party systems and external APIs across varying levels of documentation and reliability.
- Own production services with responsibilities for monitoring, alerts, on-call rotations, and root cause analysis.
- Leverage Claude and agentic tooling to accelerate build cycles, followed by rigorous review, testing, and hardening of outputs.
- Lead requirements discussions with customers, clarifying underlying problems and confirming scope before building.
- Take ownership of large projects from scope through delivery and communicate status without relying on external management.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or related field; master’s degree preferred.
- 2 to 5 years of experience building production backend systems.
- Strong proficiency in TypeScript and Node.js as the full stack.
- Solid API design, data modeling, and relational database fundamentals.
- Hands-on experience across the serverless stack: AWS Lambda, API Gateway, EventBridge, SQS/SNS, Step Functions, DynamoDB, and S3.
- Practical experience with IAM, VPC configuration, and Secrets Manager beyond theoretical knowledge.
- Infrastructure as code using CDK, Terraform, or SAM.
- Familiarity with CloudWatch and the ability to diagnose issues from logs.
- Deep understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, TLS, routing, NAT, and firewall rules.
- Proven VPN experience including IPsec site-to-site tunnels, split tunneling, and subnet/CIDR planning.
- Ability to debug connectivity issues across customer boundaries without guessing.
- Regular use of Claude, Claude Code, or comparable agentic tools as a daily driver.
- Strong prompt engineering, rapid iteration, and delivering working software within hours rather than days.
- Ability to read model outputs critically to identify bugs, edge cases, and insecure defaults.
- Excellent verbal and written communication; capable of leading client discussions and producing clear summaries.
- Skilled at requirements gathering, asking clarifying questions, and uncovering the actual problem behind requests.
- Ability to explain technical tradeoffs to non-technical stakeholders without condescension.
- Proactive status updates and risk flagging early in projects.
- Proven track record managing large projects end-to-end, from requirements through delivery.
- Comfort with ambiguity and shifting priorities in an early-stage environment.
- Bias toward shipping and then measuring outcomes.
