Software Engineer

Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. is hiring a Software Engineer in Boulder, CO (onsite) to help develop and verify complex wireless systems for a 5G/6G Test Base Station (TBS). The role focuses on implementing real-time, multi-threaded C++ software on Linux for 5G/6G RAN layer 2 functionality, along with debugging and performance tuning on the target platform.

About the Wireless R&D Team

The Wireless R&D group works on a Test Base Station (TBS) used to verify QCT mobile chipset functionality. You will collaborate with a diverse, experienced team implementing and verifying advanced 5G and 6G features for the 5G/6G TBS product. The system uses sophisticated multi-thread software written in C++ and deployed as a Linux service, with fast-paced development supported by Continuous Integration processes and systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Own 5G/6G Radio Access Network (RAN) Layer 2 responsibilities, including MAC, RLC, PDCP, and SDAP
• Drive 3GPP 5G/6G feature development from specification through commercialization
• Design and develop Layer 2 functionality, including DL and UL channel configuration, data-plane and call flows
• Implement and optimize fixed and dynamic DL and UL channel schedulers and data-plane paths
• Interface with NodeB Layer 3 (RRC) and Layer 1 (PHY) components
• Develop real-time-sensitive, multi-core, multi-threaded software for the NodeB
• Debug, profile, and optimize software for latency, throughput, and reliability on the target platform

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
• 2+ years of experience in SW design and development with C++, or strong C experience with familiarity in object-oriented concepts
• Experience across the full software development life cycle
• Familiarity with 3GPP 4G/5G specifications, including the ability to read and understand specifications and translate them into requirements
• Familiarity with developing and working in a Linux environment
• Knowledge of multi-core and multi-threaded programming, including related OS concepts
• Familiarity with industry-standard software development and debugging tools, including IDEs, build systems, git, and gdb
• Familiarity with AI-based tools/agentic workflows to improve productivity
• Strong analytical, debugging, and communication skills with the ability to work effectively across cross-functional distributed teams

Preferred Skills

• Hands-on experience designing and developing LTE/5G L2 (MAC, RLC, PDCP, SDAP) or RAN software
• Experience with real-time scheduling, DPDK, or performance tuning on multi-core platforms
• Familiarity with modern C++ (17/20/23)
• Hands-on Python experience is a plus

Compensation and Benefits

• Salary range: USD 109,400 - 164,200 per year
• Compensation includes multiple components; salary is one part of total compensation at Qualcomm
