Software Engineer

Penta Research is hiring a Software Engineer in Huntsville, AL for an onsite role. The position supports engineering work where clear thinking, strong testing practices, and effective collaboration are essential. You will build and maintain software using C++ and collaborate across a team environment while meeting program expectations and required access requirements.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain software primarily in C++.
• Create and apply unit test and system test development practices.
• Work with additional programming languages such as C, Go, Ada, and/or Python, and expand understanding as needed.
• Read and interpret other programming languages to support implementation and integration work.
• Communicate ideas clearly through work products, presentations, and discussions by capturing concepts accurately.
• Contribute both independently and as part of a team.
• Be able to travel up to 10% of the time.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline from an accredited university with five to ten years of experience, or a master’s degree with no required years of experience.
• Demonstrated C++ development experience.
• Experience developing unit tests and system tests.
• Experience with C, Go, Ada, and/or Python.
• Ability to read and understand other programming languages.
• Strong communication skills.
• Ability to think critically and capture concepts in work products, presentations, and discussions.
• Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
• Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% of the time.
• Ability to work on site in an office environment.

Security Clearance

A current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD Secret clearance is required at application and to start.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with simulation and simulation frameworks.
• Experience with Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket.
• Experience with Bamboo, Jenkins, Fortify, Coverity, and SQL databases.
• Knowledge of Ground-based Midcourse Defense.
• Experience with containers and container development.
