Senior Software Engineer

Leidos Defense is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to support the complete software lifecycle for complex defense systems. This onsite role in Huntsville, AL focuses on development in a Linux environment, working with C++ and Python inside a SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework) process, with opportunities to contribute through design, implementation, peer review, unit testing, and troubleshooting in a HWIL setting for counter UAS and missile defense solutions.

Responsibilities

• Develop software intended for execution in a Linux environment
• Build and evolve software within a SAFe environment using Jira and Gitlab
• Partner with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver the intended software functionality
• Apply software best practices through peer review and unit testing
• Debug and troubleshoot software in a HWIL environment

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent from an ABET-accredited university with 8+ years of experience, or Master’s degree with 6+ years of experience
• Strong competency in C/C++ and Python
• Experience across the software lifecycle
• Experience with software best practices such as peer reviews, automated testing, and document generation
• Collaboration experience with functional groups such as systems engineering, electrical engineering, and test to produce a software product
• Experience working in an Agile environment (or equivalent)
• Experience using tools such as Jira and Gitlab (or equivalents)
• Experience developing with the Qt IDE (or equivalent)
• Experience developing in a Linux environment
• Familiarity troubleshooting and testing software in an HWIL environment
• Currently living in Huntsville, AL or willing to relocate
• Active Secret clearance

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Buildroot and VMWare
• Experience with Wireshark and developing software that sends network communications over UDP/TCP
• Experience supporting and maintaining CI/CD pipelines
• Exposure to DoD acquisition processes and methods

Compensation and Location

Location: Huntsville, AL (onsite)

Pay range: USD 107,900 to 195,050 per year
