Software Developer

EnSolutions Inc is hiring a Software Developer for a hybrid role in Suitland, MD. If you want to work on backend systems that modernize reliably, this position focuses on building secure REST APIs, integrating identity and legacy XML/SOAP workflows, and leading container and cloud migration efforts.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services and RESTful web APIs using Node.js with frameworks such as Express, Fastify, or NestJS.
• Build, run, and troubleshoot containerized applications using Podman, including rootless containers, pods, and Containerfiles/Dockerfiles.
• Plan and execute migration of existing container workloads to cloud platforms including AWS (ECS, EKS, Lambda, App Runner), Azure (AKS, Container Apps, App Service), or GCP (Cloud Run, GKE).
• Assess current container architecture and recommend the best cloud target, such as managed containers, Kubernetes, or serverless, based on cost, scalability, and operational needs.
• Integrate with Keycloak for authentication and authorization using OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, and SAML, including realm, client, and role configuration.
• Handle XML-based exchanges by parsing, transforming, validating, and generating XML using XSD, XPath, and XSLT, with support for legacy and SOAP-based systems.
• Secure APIs using JWT validation, role-based access control, rate limiting, and input validation.
• Own CI/CD for container image builds, scanning, and deployments.
• Create unit, integration, and API tests to support reliability and maintainability.
• Document APIs with OpenAPI/Swagger and produce migration runbooks and architecture diagrams.
• Coordinate with DevOps, security, and platform teams on deployment, monitoring, and incident resolution.

What you bring

• 3+ years of professional software development experience with Node.js and JavaScript/TypeScript.
• Hands-on experience with Podman (or Docker with transferable skills), including image builds, networking, volumes, and pod management.
• Strong experience designing and consuming RESTful web APIs; SOAP familiarity is a plus.
• Working knowledge of XML processing including XSD, XPath, and transformations.
• Experience integrating applications with Keycloak or a similar identity provider using OAuth 2.0 / OIDC.
• Proven experience migrating containerized applications to at least one major cloud provider: AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Proficiency with Git and CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, or Azure DevOps.
• Strong application security fundamentals, including secrets management and environment configuration.

Preferred qualifications

• Experience with Kubernetes or OpenShift.
• Infrastructure as Code experience with Terraform, Bicep, CloudFormation, or Helm.
• Familiarity with GitOps workflows such as ArgoCD or Flux.
• Experience with message queues or event streaming: Kafka, RabbitMQ, SQS, or Azure Service Bus.
• Knowledge of observability tooling including OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana, and cloud-native monitoring.
• Database experience with PostgreSQL, MariaDB, or managed cloud databases.
• Scripting experience in PowerShell or Bash.
• Cloud certifications such as AWS Developer/Solutions Architect, Azure Developer, or a GCP equivalent.
