Java API Backend Developer

CGI Group, Inc. is hiring a Senior Java API Backend Developer in Pittsburgh, PA. This onsite role focuses on designing and delivering high-performance APIs and backend components, with technical leadership across teams to support scalability, reliability, and security.

Location and Work Setup

• Pittsburgh, PA (onsite)
• Required to perform the role from the client site 5 days per week
• Client site options noted: Pittsburgh, PA or Strongsville, OH
• For this client engagement, employer sponsorship of immigration-related visa and/or green card status as part of the PERM process will not be available

Compensation

• USD 72,500 - 160,700 per year

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain high-performance APIs that power the system.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand requirements and architect solutions that support scalability, reliability, and security for the APIs.
• Design, maintain, and implement API, microservices, and backend components.
• Partner with API developers across the team to build new features at large scale.
• Improve API standards and service patterns.
• Develop and unit test Java RESTful services that integrate with external client systems.
• Review design documents and provide feedback on approach and estimates.
• Create technical designs for new systems and for modifications to existing systems.
• Translate detailed requirements into functional system designs.
• Prioritize work, meet deadlines, and maintain effective relationships with clients, project team members, supervisors, and other department stakeholders.
• Work closely with internal and external design, business, and technical counterparts.
• Research and recommend functional libraries to expedite development.
• Mentor junior developers, lead technical discussions, and drive adoption of best practices and standards.
• Maintain excellent interpersonal skills while working with diverse personalities and resolving technical issues.

Requirements

• 8+ years hands-on Java/J2EE development, including troubleshooting and deployment (mandatory).
• Hands-on experience with technologies such as Spring Boot and microservices.
• 8+ years overall Java/J2EE development with REST API, Spring Boot, Angular, XML, JSON, and Swagger.
• 8+ years RESTful or SOAP web services.
• 5+ years Angular, CSS, JavaScript, and HTML.
• 5+ years GitHub, Jenkins, and CI/CD server experience.
• Experience writing unit tests for JavaScript code.
• Experience using Agile methodologies for application development.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field.
• Working knowledge and hands-on experience with DEVOPs tools such as Jenkins, uDeploy, and Git.
• Knowledge of Kafka.
• Hands-on experience with IBM MQ.
• Strong knowledge in SQL and No SQL.
• Knowledge of cloud technologies such as AWS and Azure.
