Senior Staff Software Engineer, Developer Productivity
Job Description
Asana’s Developer Productivity group is hiring a Senior Staff Software Engineer to lead AI-driven improvements across the development lifecycle, tooling, frameworks, and infrastructure in a hybrid role in San Francisco.
Responsibilities
- Lead high-impact developer productivity and AI developer tooling initiatives used by 500+ developers
- Collaborate with the Developer Productivity Group Tech Lead to set technical vision and strategy for 6+ engineering teams, focused on increasing velocity for Asana engineers
- Build and align on the roadmap for Asana’s development platform to strengthen feedback loops across the software development lifecycle
- Improve how every Asana engineer ships through faster, more effective development iteration
- Own key outcomes related to extending internal tooling used to delegate work to agents across harnesses
- Mentor senior and staff-level engineers in Developer Productivity and across Foundations and the broader Engineering organization
- Serve as a resource to team tech leads on longer-term technical planning, design and architecture, and prioritizing technical debt
- Drive changes that improve the effectiveness of automated validation loop workflows
- Contribute to AI-driven efforts spanning internal agentic harnesses and online and offline developer evaluations
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience as a technical contributor in large-scale products
- 2+ years owning a build system, developer environment, CI, or equivalent at an organization of 200+ engineers
- Experience making and delegating technical decisions with org-wide impact
- Fluency with current AI developer tooling, paired with strong judgment to collaborate with teams and set direction
- Passion for coaching and mentoring engineers across experience levels

Location: San Francisco, CA (hybrid)
Compensation: USD 323,500 - 336,750 per year
