Job Description

Quilter AI builds software for PCB/CAD workflows, and this role focuses on turning real customer integration issues into production fixes and durable product capabilities. You’ll work closely with the go-to-market team and customers on file I/O, design models, diagnostics, and workflow automation, with a strong emphasis on Python-based parsers and exporters.

This Senior/Staff Software Engineer position is hybrid in Los Angeles, CA (Remote location type listed). You’ll help ship integration improvements end-to-end, from reproducing failures to adding acceptance checks and regression tests that prevent repeat issues. The work is challenging and hands-on, with competitive compensation and equity, comprehensive health coverage, and team events/offsites (about 4x per year).

Responsibilities

  • Investigate and resolve customer blockers by reproducing failures with customers and GTM, inspecting design data and logs, and identifying root causes.
  • Fix File I/O issues and coordinate with partner teams when problems span multiple system boundaries.
  • Own Python changes from design through rollout, shipping integration features and fixes including parsers, exporters, and shared representations of boards, schematics, and constraints.
  • Make sound implementation tradeoffs and contribute through code reviews.
  • Verify the complete design workflow by converting representative customer cases into acceptance checks and regression tests.
  • Validate that design information survives import and that exported results remain usable in the customer’s native CAD tool.
  • Reduce recurring failures by improving diagnostics and error messages, automating reproductions, and building agentic investigation workflows.
  • Use evaluations and feedback loops to make troubleshooting faster and more reliable.
  • Connect customers’ existing workflows to Quilter with reusable scripts and integrations for design-data preparation and handoffs.
  • Use repeated customer needs to identify which capabilities should be supported in the shared product.
  • Partner with GTM and engineering to prioritize urgent blockers and larger improvements, agree on scope and commitments, and communicate findings clearly.
  • Pair with customers to demonstrate fixes, and document workflows they can run independently.

Requirements

  • Deep production Python experience, including ownership of maintainable software from design through testing and rollout.
  • Experience working directly with customers, partners, or technical users to understand workflows, diagnose integration problems, and deliver working software.
  • Strong debugging skills across unfamiliar code, files, and structured data.
  • Clear communication and sound judgment under time pressure, including explaining uncertainty, coordinating priorities and dependencies, and following through on both short-term fixes and long-term improvements.
  • Practical experience with LLMs and agentic workflows, including evaluating results and improving the tools and feedback loops around them.

Technologies

  • Python
  • LLMs

What You’ll Get

  • Interesting and challenging work
  • Competitive salary and equity benefits
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Regular team events and offsites (approximately 4x / year)
  • Unlimited paid time off
  • Paid parental leave

Location & Employment

  • Los Angeles, CA (hybrid)
  • Full time
  • Department: Engineering

Nice to Have

  • Hands-on familiarity with PCB design workflows and ECAD tools.
  • Experience with parsers, proprietary file formats, vendor APIs, or CAD scripting.
  • Experience in customer or integration engineering, including troubleshooting in environments with restricted access to systems or design data.
  • Experience building regression corpora, diagnostic tools, or agent harnesses and evals.

What Success Looks Like

  • Customer blockers become verified production improvements.
  • More designs move successfully through import, Quilter, and native export, with recurring failures decreasing and the team gaining reusable tests, diagnostics, and workflow tools that speed up resolution.
