Senior Software Engineer - SDK iOS
Job Description
The Senior Software Engineer, iOS on Amplitude's Developer Experience (DX) team leads the design and development of the core iOS SDKs (Analytics and Session Replay) and serves as the iOS platform expert for other SDK teams. The role emphasizes performance, reliability, and an outstanding developer experience across Amplitude's mobile ecosystem. Location is San Francisco, CA and the position is onsite. Compensation ranges from USD 165,000 to 276,000 per year.
Responsibilities
- Direct the technical direction, architecture, and long term evolution of the iOS SDK platform.
- Own and drive development of core iOS SDKs, including Analytics and Session Replay, prioritizing performance, reliability, and ease of use.
- Serve as the iOS platform expert and a trusted partner for other SDK teams (Experiment, Guides & Surveys), enabling them to build on shared foundations safely and efficiently.
- Design and evolve shared infrastructure, APIs, and abstractions that scale across multiple iOS SDKs.
- Work closely with Product and Customer Support to ensure SDKs align with real customer needs.
- Lead cross team technical discussions, reviews, and architectural decisions spanning multiple SDKs.
- Enhance developer experience through improved APIs, documentation, tooling, testing strategies, and sample apps.
Requirements
- Strong commitment to developer experience and empathy for engineers who use the work.
- Expertise in iOS platform internals and best practices.
- Good judgment balancing API design, performance, backward compatibility, and delivery speed.
- Comfort working across team boundaries and influencing without direct authority.
- High standards for code quality, testing, and long term maintainability.
- Ability to explain complex technical topics clearly to both technical and non technical partners.
- B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 4+ years of professional software engineering experience with substantial iOS development experience.
- Strong proficiency in Swift and Objective-C, with experience using modern iOS APIs, frameworks, and development tools.
- Experience designing public APIs with a focus on stability and backward compatibility.
- Experience debugging complex issues across a wide range of iOS devices and OS versions.
- Familiarity with performance profiling, memory management, and concurrency on iOS.
