Software Engineer 2 - Mobile Developer (iOS & Android)
Job Description
The Software Engineer 2 in Mobile Engineering will analyze, design, test, develop, and maintain production software experiences for both iOS and Android. The role applies Agile and DevOps practices, with an emphasis on reliable delivery, secure and scalable solutions, and integration with backend systems.
Role Overview
This position is responsible for the end-to-end lifecycle of mobile software experiences, including analysis, design, testing, development, and ongoing maintenance. The engineer will collaborate with a team and partners across the organization, taking ownership of the software artifacts produced and aligning with U.S. Bank standards to minimize impact to the customer experience.
The role supports both mobile platforms and requires flexibility to contribute across iOS and Android as business priorities evolve. Familiarity with iOS development is important, alongside experience building mobile capabilities, backend-integrated mobile solutions, SDKs, and services supporting secure, scalable, and reliable mobile operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, operate, and maintain products across the mobile software lifecycle.
- Exercise full stack ownership by producing production-ready and testable code.
- Create optimal designs aligned to architectural best practices, considering scalability, reliability, and performance for impacted systems and contexts.
- Analyze failures, propose design changes, and support operational improvements.
- Make sound design and coding decisions with a sustained focus on customer experience.
- Use code review feedback to apply changes that meet engineering standards.
- Conduct code reviews to guide engineering best practices and adherence to development procedures.
- Ensure product development activities follow compliance and security best practices.
- Apply software reliability engineering standards within development practices.
- Critically review work items for appropriate prioritization and sizing to support incremental delivery, and communicate blockers or delays before escalation.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
- Three to five years of relevant experience.

Compensation
Pay Range: USD 98,175 - 115,500 per year.

Preferred Skills and Experience
- Experience building mobile platform services, SDKs, and backend-driven mobile applications across iOS and Android.
- Working knowledge of Swift and/or Objective-C for iOS, plus Java and/or Kotlin for Android.
- Experience developing features integrating with backend systems, APIs, messaging frameworks, authentication services, and enterprise platforms.
- Experience with RESTful APIs, service integration, and mobile-to-backend communication patterns.
- Experience developing and consuming mobile SDKs, reusable libraries, platform components, and shared mobile frameworks.
- Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills across mobile applications, backend services, and distributed systems.
- Experience supporting high-scale, production-grade applications and services.
- Understanding of application performance, monitoring, observability, and stability across mobile and backend ecosystems.
- Experience in C++ is a plus but not required.
- Knowledge of Payments and/or FinTech industry is a plus but not required.
- Experience working in Agile and DevOps environments with a focus on software quality, reliability, and continuous delivery.
Location and Work Schedule
Location: Charlotte, NC (onsite). This role requires working from a U.S. Bank location three (3) or more days per week.
