Job Description
Adyen seeks a Senior Software Engineer for the Card Payments team in Chicago to lead design and architecture for a scalable processing platform, mentor engineers, and drive the merchant-facing roadmap.
Responsibilities
- Provide a strong point of view on engineering practices and standards.
- Collaborate across multiple teams and time zones to finalize projects.
- Own complex technical initiatives from requirements analysis through design, implementation, testing, and production rollout.
- Write code hands-on while offering technical guidance and mentorship to teammates.
- Identify opportunities to improve robustness and scalability across the platform.
- Design features with scale in mind, ensuring performance at large usage levels.
- Drive fast delivery and iterative improvements, delivering live functionalities within weeks that impact many merchants and shoppers.
Requirements
- Minimum of 8 years of professional engineering experience, currently at Senior Software Engineer level or equivalent.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex concepts to stakeholders.
- Flexible, collaborative, detail-oriented team player.
- Experience with complex, large-scale distributed systems.
- Open to some domestic and international travel.
- Proven track record building Java based web services (RESTful and SOAP).
- Experience designing performant relational database models, especially PostgreSQL or similar systems.
- Knowledge of architecture patterns such as event-driven design or message queuing.
