Job Description

Senior Software Engineer focused on back-end services using C#/.NET and SQL Server, contributing to APIs, services, and data-intensive solutions within internal and client-facing greenfield projects in a hybrid Williamsburg, VA environment.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business goals, user needs, and product direction
  • Attend Agile and Scrum ceremonies, delivering incrementally and aiming for continuous improvement
  • Explain tradeoffs in technical discussions and align implementation with desired outcomes
  • Design, build, and maintain backend services and APIs using the Microsoft .NET stack (ASP.NET Core, C#) with emphasis on reliability, security, and performance
  • Design relational database schemas and implement performant MS SQL Server queries and data access patterns
  • Adhere to clean coding standards, secure coding practices, and SOLID design principles
  • Develop modern web UI components as needed with React, Vite, Next.js, or similar
  • Coordinate backend and frontend concerns (auth flows, API contracts, error handling, UX impact) while focusing on backend delivery
  • Contribute to solution design using patterns like microservices, domain-driven design, event-driven architectures, and RESTful services under senior guidance
  • Participate in design reviews to ensure maintainability and alignment with team standards
  • Integrate with Identity and Access Management providers (Entra ID, Auth0)
  • Connect applications to enterprise systems such as LMS, EAM, and HCM
  • Write and maintain unit, integration, and end-to-end tests to reduce regression risk
  • Develop POCs to evaluate new tools and frameworks when appropriate
  • Build with operational readiness in mind, including observability, resilience, and secure-by-default practices
  • Use Docker to streamline and standardize deployments
  • Apply infrastructure-as-code patterns (Bicep) to provision Azure resources like App Services, Azure SQL, Storage, Functions, and Key Vaults
  • Leverage message brokers such as Azure Service Bus or RabbitMQ for event-driven workflows
  • Follow Git branching strategies suited to the project
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps with quality gates (linting, static analysis, build/test automation)
  • Utilize modern AI tools responsibly to accelerate development tasks while preserving quality and security
  • Keep informed about AI developments that can improve engineering workflows

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a related field
  • 7+ years of professional software engineering experience with C# and modern cross-platform .NET
  • Strong analytical skills, problem-solving ability, attention to detail, and clear written and oral communication
  • Experience building and supporting back-end services (APIs) with data access and relational databases using MS SQL Server
  • Working knowledge of modern front-end web development (e.g., React/Vite/Next.js or similar) to contribute when needed
  • Experience using AI tools thoughtfully within the software development lifecycle to boost productivity while maintaining quality and security
