Job Description

Mastercard is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Portfolio Intelligence team to design, build, deploy, and scale full-stack, real-time interactive applications. The role spans the technology stack to deliver analytics dashboards and reports powered by Mastercard data assets.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, test, deploy, and enhance full-stack applications using Java, Spring Boot, React, Angular, PostgreSQL, SQL, and Snowflake.
  • Develop scalable microservices, REST APIs, and distributed systems for real-time analytics, reporting, and data-driven applications.
  • Create user interfaces that are intuitive, responsive, and high-performing, converting complex information into actionable insights and supporting strong customer experiences.
  • Convert business and product requirements into secure, scalable, maintainable, and testable software solutions.
  • Design and optimize database structures, queries, and data models for large-scale, data-intensive applications.
  • Apply core engineering practices including object-oriented design, design patterns, data structures, algorithms, automated testing, code reviews, and CI/CD.
  • Collaborate with Product Managers, Architects, Engineers, and other stakeholders across global teams to deliver customer-focused outcomes.
  • Improve performance, reliability, security, observability, and operational excellence for applications in production.
  • Participate in Agile planning, estimation, prioritization, and delivery while taking ownership of technical results.
  • Use AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot to accelerate coding activities, while applying appropriate engineering judgment and human oversight.
  • Mentor team members, share technical knowledge, and support a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Follow Mastercard security policies and practices, including protecting confidentiality and integrity of accessed information.
  • Report any suspected information security violation or breach and complete periodic mandatory security trainings in line with Mastercard guidelines.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience building enterprise-scale full-stack applications with strong expertise across backend services, frontend development, and databases.
  • Extensive experience creating Java applications, Spring Boot services, RESTful APIs, and microservices in enterprise settings.
  • Hands-on experience with React, Angular, JavaScript/TypeScript, and responsive web application development.
  • Proven ability to design modern, responsive user interfaces with effective and engaging user experiences.
  • Strong capabilities in database design, data modeling, SQL, PostgreSQL, Snowflake, query optimization, and performance tuning.
  • Understanding of microservice architecture, distributed systems, API design, and cloud-native development practices.
  • Knowledge of object-oriented design, design patterns, data structures, algorithms, and software architecture.
  • Experience designing and developing event-driven applications, scalable distributed systems, and data-intensive applications.
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot to improve productivity and software quality across coding, refactoring, testing, debugging, documentation, and delivery.
  • Strong understanding of modern software engineering practices including automated testing, CI/CD, Git-based development, code reviews, observability, and operational readiness.
  • Ability to work effectively in an Agile environment, contributing to collaborative technical decision-making and continuous improvement.
  • Capacity to work independently, manage competing priorities, and make thoughtful technical decisions with minimal supervision.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, including explaining technical concepts and influencing technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Compensation

Arlington, Virginia: $132,000 - $212,000 USD (annual)

Location and Schedule

This is a hybrid role based in Arlington, VA 22203, requiring three days per week onsite.

  • Collaborate with teams in Arlington, VA, New York City, NY, and Pune, India.

Work Authorization

This role is not eligible for Mastercard’s work authorization sponsorship. Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States, now and in the future, without employer sponsorship.

Salary Notes

The listed pay range applies to the Arlington, Virginia location: $132,000 - $212,000 USD per year.
