Software Engineer II
Job Description
Mastercard’s Digital Enablement Services (MDES) Quality Engineering team is hiring a Software Engineer II to build and run end-to-end quality engineering solutions across the software development lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable software applications, services, and APIs
- Contribute to software architecture and technical design decisions focused on scalability, performance, reliability, and maintainability
- Build and enhance microservices and distributed systems supporting Mastercard’s technology ecosystem
- Write high-quality, reusable, and maintainable code aligned with engineering best practices and coding standards
- Participate in requirements reviews, solution design discussions, sprint planning, and technical refinement
- Perform code reviews and provide constructive feedback to improve software quality and maintainability
- Apply secure coding practices and software engineering standards throughout development
- Develop and maintain automated tests to improve application quality and reliability
- Support CI/CD pipelines and engineering automation to accelerate delivery
- Analyze application logs, troubleshoot issues, conduct root-cause analysis, and implement sustainable fixes
- Optimize application performance, scalability, resiliency, and operational readiness
- Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Platform, and Quality teams to deliver customer-focused solutions
- Support engineering best practices, technical standards, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Mentor junior engineers and help build a culture of collaboration, innovation, and technical excellence
- Use AI-assisted engineering tools and solutions to improve productivity and software quality
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
- 3+ years of software engineering experience developing enterprise applications and services
- Strong programming skills in Java and object-oriented design principles
- Strong knowledge of Java and Spring
- Experience with JUnit and Eclipse IDE
- Experience with Rest Assured and JBehave/Cucumber frameworks
- Working knowledge of databases such as Oracle
- Experience with APIs including REST / SOAP
- Knowledge of Continuous Delivery concepts and tools such as Jenkins / Bamboo
- Experience with vulnerability tools such as Sonar and Checkmarx/Fortify
- Experience with XP, TDD, and BDD processes and architecture patterns
- Experience designing, developing, testing, and maintaining software applications
- Knowledge of software design patterns, architecture principles, and distributed system concepts
- Understanding of data structures, algorithms, and performance optimization techniques
- Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs and microservices
- Hands-on experience with Maven, Git, Jenkins, and modern software development tools
- Experience with SQL and data management concepts
- Understanding of CI/CD practices and Agile software development methodologies
- Knowledge of secure coding practices and software security fundamentals
- Strong troubleshooting, debugging, problem-solving, and analytical skills

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Mastercard MDES, tokenization, or digital payment platforms
- Experience developing cloud-native applications and working within containerized environments
- Ability to perform PoCs (Proof of Concept) and support technology selection
- Experience building highly available, resilient, and scalable distributed systems
- Knowledge of performance engineering, observability, monitoring, and operational excellence practices
- Experience supporting production services in enterprise-scale environments
- Familiarity with automated testing frameworks and testing best practices
- Experience integrating quality and automation capabilities into CI/CD pipelines
- Exposure to AI-powered software engineering and developer productivity tools

Location and Pay Range

- Pay range: USD 92,000 - 147,000 per year
