Job Description

Hitachi Federal is hiring a Senior Data Engineer to lead enterprise data engineering delivery for customer-facing professional services engagements. If you enjoy turning customer objectives into scalable architectures, mentoring engineers, and solving complex integration and performance challenges, this onsite role in Washington, VA (DC on client site) provides the chance to build and optimize real-world data solutions while contributing to service offerings.

This position carries an expected annual salary range of USD 160,000 to 205,000. The role also may be eligible for Hitachi Federal’s annual incentive (bonus) program, where applicable, under company policies and plan provisions.

What you’ll do

  • Lead technical delivery of complex professional services engagements from design through implementation.
  • Design enterprise-scale data engineering solutions aligned to customer business and technical requirements.
  • Facilitate architecture workshops, technical planning sessions, and solution reviews.
  • Translate customer business objectives into scalable technical solutions and act as the primary technical escalation point during delivery.
  • Drive customer success through high-quality solution implementation and technical leadership, consistently meeting expectations for quality, professionalism, and technical excellence.
  • Deliver enterprise data engineering, data integration, and object storage solutions.
  • Partner with Project Managers to keep projects on schedule, within scope, and aligned to customer expectations.
  • Review Statements of Work (SOWs), technical design documents, delivery checklists, and implementation plans.
  • Create customer-facing architecture documentation, implementation guides, and technical deliverables; communicate project status and technical risks to both customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Design and develop Java-based applications, APIs, integrations, and automation, including reusable software components, plugins, and integration frameworks.
  • Build scalable data pipelines and orchestration workflows, including RESTful API integrations between enterprise systems.
  • Optimize performance, scalability, and reliability; troubleshoot complex enterprise software and infrastructure issues.
  • Support growth of Hitachi Federal service offerings through learning, proof-of-concept initiatives, technology evaluations, and internal lab development.
  • Recommend improvements to increase delivery quality and operational efficiency.
  • Mentor junior engineers across the Professional Services organization and provide technical guidance; participate in knowledge sharing through documentation and training.
  • Collaborate with Sales Engineers during customer pursuits and technical presentations, and partner with Product, Support, and Engineering teams to resolve complex customer issues.

What you bring

  • Active Top Secret / Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) Security Clearance required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related technical discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum 8 years of enterprise software engineering, data engineering, or professional services consulting experience.
  • Proven experience leading technical implementation projects within enterprise environments.
  • Experience designing enterprise-scale data architectures and integrations.
  • Strong customer-facing consulting and communication skills, including the ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
