Job Description

The Senior Data Engineer will serve as a technical lead for enterprise data engineering solutions supporting Hitachi Federal customers. This onsite role in Washington, VA combines solution design, hands-on development, and delivery leadership across professional services engagements.

Role Summary

Provide technical leadership for designing, implementing, integrating, and optimizing enterprise data engineering capabilities for Hitachi Federal customers. Partner with customer and internal stakeholders to deliver professional services engagements, including technical planning, mentoring, and service and innovation development.

Responsibilities

  • Lead technical delivery of complex professional services engagements from design through implementation.
  • Design enterprise-scale data engineering solutions aligned to customer business and technical requirements.
  • Facilitate customer architecture workshops, technical planning sessions, and solution reviews.
  • Translate customer business objectives into scalable technical solutions.
  • Act as the primary technical escalation point throughout project delivery.
  • Drive customer success through high-quality solution implementation and technical leadership.
  • Deliver enterprise capabilities including data engineering, data integration, and object storage solutions.
  • Partner with Project Managers to keep projects on schedule, within scope, and aligned to customer expectations.
  • Review Statements of Work (SOWs), technical design documents, delivery checklists, and implementation plans.
  • Prepare customer-facing architecture documentation, implementation guides, and technical deliverables.
  • Communicate project status and technical risks to customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Design and develop Java-based applications, APIs, integrations, and automation solutions.
  • Develop reusable software components, plugins, and integration frameworks.
  • Design scalable enterprise data pipelines and data orchestration workflows.
  • Implement RESTful API integrations between enterprise systems.
  • Optimize application performance, scalability, and reliability.
  • Troubleshoot complex enterprise software and infrastructure issues.
  • Learn and deliver new Hitachi Federal service offerings; participate in proof-of-concept initiatives and technology evaluations.
  • Develop repeatable implementation methodologies and best practices.
  • Contribute to internal lab development and service innovation, recommending improvements to increase delivery quality and operational efficiency.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance across the Professional Services organization.
  • Collaborate with Sales Engineers during customer pursuits and technical presentations.
  • Partner with Product, Support, and Engineering teams to resolve complex customer issues.
  • Support knowledge sharing through documentation, training sessions, and peer mentoring.
  • Maintain strong customer relationships built on trust and technical credibility.

Required Qualifications

  • Active Top Secret / Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) Security Clearance required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related technical discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum 8 years of enterprise software engineering, data engineering, or professional services consulting experience.
  • Proven experience leading technical implementation projects within enterprise environments.
  • Experience designing enterprise-scale data architectures and integrations.
  • Strong customer-facing consulting and communication skills.
  • Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.

Compensation and Location

  • Location: Washington, VA (onsite)
  • Salary: USD 160,000 to 205,000 per year
