Job Description

Cesna Recruitment is hiring a SAS Data Engineer with strong Linux support experience to work onsite in Austin, TX. In this role, you will support storage and compute system upgrades while troubleshooting, monitoring, patching, and maintaining a mix of enterprise platforms spanning Isilon, NetApp, HPC, Kubernetes, Greenplum, Impala, and GPU servers.

You will assess capacity and performance, coordinate hardware and software changes with minimal downtime, and help ensure security and compliance across ongoing maintenance activities. The position also includes documentation, automation, and disaster recovery planning so production systems remain stable and available.

What you’ll do

  • Assess Isilon and NetApp cluster capacity and performance using OneFS and ONTAP to determine when node replacements or upgrades are needed.
  • Coordinate the integration of new Isilon and NetApp nodes, ensuring compatibility and minimal downtime during scalability operations.
  • Oversee upgrade and replacement of HPC, Kubernetes, Greenplum, Impala, and GPU server hardware to improve computational and graphics processing capabilities.
  • Use Impala Insight IQ and NetApp tooling to diagnose issues impacting throughput, latency, and capacity.
  • Apply OneFS and ONTAP troubleshooting tools and logs to identify and resolve system errors and hardware malfunctions.
  • Monitor and address performance bottlenecks and system failures across HPC, Kubernetes, Greenplum, GPU servers, Impala, and NetApp environments.
  • Implement continuous monitoring using Isilon OneFS event logs, NetApp ONTAP tools, SNMP alerts, and Grafana to detect anomalies early.
  • Schedule regular maintenance using Isilon and NetApp software suites to support optimal storage performance and longevity.
  • Apply Impala and NetApp-specific patches and firmware updates, keeping nodes and system software secure and up-to-date.
  • Test software updates in a sandbox environment to evaluate performance and stability before cluster-wide deployment.
  • Coordinate software updates and patch installations across HPC, Kubernetes, Greenplum, GPU servers, Impala, and NetApp systems to preserve integrity and security.
  • Provide specialized support for optimizing Isilon and NetApp storage solutions, including data migration, system expansion, and configuration tuning.
  • Support optimization of HPC, Kubernetes, Greenplum, and GPU server configurations to improve computational resources and data processing workflows.
  • Assist with design, configuration, and optimization of NetApp storage architectures for efficient data management.
  • Manage phased decommissioning of aging Isilon and NetApp hardware while meeting environmental standards and security protocols.
  • Coordinate replacement of EOL hardware across HPC, Kubernetes, Greenplum, GPU servers, Isilon, and NetApp to prevent performance degradation.
  • Ensure Impala, NetApp, HPC, Kubernetes, Greenplum, and GPU storage solutions are integrated and compatible with the broader IT infrastructure.
  • Develop strategies to integrate storage and processing technologies to maximize performance and resource utilization.
  • Maintain detailed documentation for system configurations, upgrades, and troubleshooting to support team onboarding.
  • Conduct training sessions or create guides so internal teams can learn system operations and best practices.
  • Plan and test disaster recovery procedures for Impala, NetApp, and HPC/Kubernetes/Greenplum/GPU servers to support data availability and business continuity.
  • Ensure backup and recovery processes are in place and regularly tested to reduce data loss risk.
  • Create and maintain capacity planning strategies to scale storage and compute resources based on performance trends and business needs.
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts for monitoring, data migration, and maintenance to improve system efficiency and reduce manual errors.
  • Maintain compliance with organizational security standards and relevant regulations during maintenance, upgrades, and troubleshooting.
  • Coordinate with security teams to apply hardening best practices for Isilon, NetApp, HPC, Kubernetes, Greenplum, and GPU servers.
  • Participate in data center activities, including racking and initial installation of servers and storage equipment.
  • Ensure proper cabling, power connections, and network configurations during initial setup to support smooth IT integration.
